C, Boger. 23 committed sui cide Thursday morning by shooting himself through the head at his home at Connty Line,.nine iniles a- bove Mocksville. He had-been an employee of the State Highway De partment, but had resigned his job^ According to his wife, he an- nouDced to her Wednesday even ing as they were out riding, his in tention of hilling himself, but later quelled her fears by assuring her that be was '*ohly joking.** How ever, he took a pistol' to bed with him, and kept it with him all night, giving as bis reason his desire to be adequately protected aghinst higbt prowlers. Atout 7:30 Thursday morning, says Mrs. Boger, he a wakened her and asked her to go get him some breakfast. She im mediately prepared to do so. And she was in the kitchen starting the fire when she heard the pistol snap twice, and as she rushed into the bedroom it fired. Her husband had evidently held it close to bis head. The bullet ranged downward, and did not cause instant death. Mrs. Boger at once snmmoned an ambu lance from Statesville. but just a& it arrived, about an bonr and a half after the firing of the shot, her husband died. I Investigation was made by the sheriff, and by the coroner. Both rendered a veidict of.suicide, and a jury was not called. The young couple bad been mar ried about tbree ye^s. Both Boger and his wife, who was Mi^ Sain, are natives of this county and have lived in this neighborhood all their lives. They have no children. Funeral of Dr. Thomas RrHard ing, 73, widely known citizen of Yadkin county was conducted from Yadkinville Methdist church at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, by Rev. A. R. Plyler, Rev. M. H. Vestal and Rev. J. E. Robinson. Service at the grave is to be io charge of the Masonic Order. Dr. Harding died Monday eve ning at his home in Yadkinville, after being ill for several gionths and in a serious condition a few weeks. He was born in Hunters* ville, July 30, 1S55, and practiced medicine about 40 years. He bad lived in Yadkinville since 1885. Dr. Hardtng is survived by his wife; eight children, a brother G. He entere.d the church shortly before the ser* vice and sat down near the stove. He was stricken with paralysis im* mediately after taking bis seat. An ambulance was called and he was brought to the hospital, but he died a few hours later without regaining consciousness. Mr. Horn was a Baptist minister and was a native of the Society church community, Davie coitnty. He had made his home in States- villa for many years. n Surviving are his^wife, two sons, Messrs. D. Hobson Passes At Salisbury Salisbury, March 6.—William Henry Hobson, many years a re sident of Rowan, died this evening at the home of his son, B. M, Hob son, after an illness which he had withstood throughout the months of January and February. Mr. Hobson. a native of Davie county, moved to Salisbury from Jerusalem about 15 years ago Prior to his residence here he had spent his life on the ancestral acres of Davie, of the spots that never lost its identity with the old sonth which he loved, for which he fought valiantly as a Confederate soldier and from which he moved with great reluctance. He was prominent as farmer, citizen and churchman. The late Captain Charles Price, eminent lawyer of bis day, was a brother-in- law, and Augustus Hobson Price, son of the distinguished barrister, was a nephew. William Henry Hobson, Jr., who furnished a spec tacular example of eflficient prohi- Uibition enforcement during the Harding administration isasurviv- in? son and a namesake. Mr. Hobson became prey to pneumonia early in January, but i the soldier in him would not give op. He fought bis way through the worst of the disease 'and partially recovered. But at 85 the protracted struggle with this mortal malady and its poisonous aftermath had taken its toll of a great body, but none of the bat tling heart which cheered hts com rades it; the great war Mr Hobsoti's one love affair with Miss Ossie Morris, of Davie, result ed in their marriage. His widow- cr-hood of 30 years and more was mark^ by a beautiful devotion to her own radiant life. He had a rare gift of affection, but none for any other woman in the world. To that union were born John, W. H. Hobson, Jr., Ed Morris Hobson James Hobson, Mrs. William Er nest Sandidge, of Amhersc, Virgi nia; Miss Johnsie Hobson, of Roa- noke, Va.. and .Mrs. R. R. Craw ford, of Winston-Salem. John Hobson died mote than 30 years ago and James Hobson in May of 192$. The funeral was held Friday morning-in Salisburv, and the body brought to Jerusalem and laid to rest in the family burial ground. The editor of The Record has lost one of his best friends' in the death of this noble man. . C H. Hendricks Mr. Clarence H Hendricks died at his.home in South Mocksville Monday night at 10 o'clock, aged 32 years, following a short illness. The body will be carried to Ad vance today and laid to re.st. Mr. Hendricks is survived by bis wife and four children, two sous and two daughters; bis father, two sisters and two brothers. This is one of the saddest deaths that The 'Record has ever been called upon to chronicle. The bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire town and community. Sanford, 85, promioent Mocksvilleand Davie county citi zen. nassed away at bis home here Wednesday evening at 6:^5 o'clock. Mr. Sanford was the oldest mer chant in the county, having been in business for over fifty-nine years, and was at the time of his death operating the largest business in Davie., Mr. Sanford was bom and rear ed in this county and was a lieuteu- ant in the Fortieth North Carolina Regiment in the Civil War, serving the entire four years of the conflict without .receiving a wound. He was four times SbetifF of the coun ty, serving in that capacity from 1874 to 7882. He is .survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert Faucette, of Cbatta- oooga, Tenn., and Mrs. J. J. Larew, of Mocksville, and five son?, T. F. Sanford, of Chattanooga, Tenn., R. B., H. A.. J. C. and E C. Sanford, all of Mocksville. The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at two o'clock by his pastor, Rev. B. P. Bradley, after which tbe ^y was catried to Joppa graveyard and laid to rest by his wife who died about twenty years ago. As a mark of respect to this pio neer merchant, every store, busi ness house and oflSce in Mocksville was closed duriug the funeral and burial services. Id the death of Mr. Sanford the town and county looses one of her oldest and best beloved citizens. A good man has been called to his reward. Thompson, of North Wilkesboro; Miss Martha Call, of this city; W. H. Call, of Selma; J. W, Call, of Wilson, and S. M. Call, Jr., of this city. One brother, W. D. VanEaton, of Clar endon, Texas, also survives. The brother and all of the children were at her bedside when death came. Dedman had been engaged in the grocery business in Spencer for about eight years aiid was known to almost ail the people here. He was a native of Davie of county. Jasper Richardson Mr. Jasper Richardson died at his home near Bear Creek church Saturday at uoon, aged about 60 years. The funeral, aud burial ser vices were held at ^ew Union church Sunday at 11 o'clock. Mr. Richardson is survived by one bro ther, M. B. Richardson, of near Mocksville. Col onel Boydea had been able to get about some and two weeks ago at tended the Confederate veterans' reunion at Charlotte in his official capacity as brigadier general. Just a short time before that he had pre sented the diplomas to zq8 young men and women graduating from the Boyden high school, an snstftu tion that was named in his honor. I'be immediate cause of bis death was a stroke of paralysis which he suffered several days ago. Joe Rouse The-body of Mr, Joe Rouse, who died at the home of bis son, P. J. 'Rouse, at Kannapolis, was brought to Davie and laid to rest in i#iberty grave yard on June 17th.
