Willard, the 18*year-old Davie Osunty youth for Whom more than 121,000 had beoi raised to oombat the disease, died Jidy 38Ui at the Baptist Hospital m Mnston-Salem. WlUard was suffering from familial nqdiritis and had been a pattott at the boq>ltal for several days. Funeral services were con* ducted Firlday afternoon at the Bat<m Funeral Cbapd. Burial was in the Bethlehm United Btethodlst Church cemetery. Willard is the fourth memba of his fiunily to die of f^Oial nephritis. His brother, Larry, ID, died May 1, and their mother and grandfathier also died of the disease. The Rev. Paul Hart, a Methodist minister at Advance, began a Rmd last spring in the hqm that Willard could be given a kidney transplant or provided with an artificial Kidney. Numerous churches, civic mttps and individuals in Davie hdped raise money for the fund. On July 17, thirty*three studoits walked 28 miles from MbCksville to ?nnston<Salan to raise money for Willard. He said Mr. Hoots waa last seen about 11 p.m. Sunday and had been dead for some lime when found. He was bom in Yadkin County. on Sept. 12,1921 to Jasper J. and Maude Williams Hoots. Mr. Dunn was planning to take his sen and Larry Howard dove bunting on Saturday. In a tdephtme conversation wth his wife shortly before the accldoit, hltr. told her it was all right for the boys to look at the guns... a .22 caliber rifle anda diot gun... that they were not loaded. The boys were looklRg at the guns whra the .22 caliber rifle suddenly disdiarged and the bullet struck Mrs. Dunn in the neck. Larry Howard applied first aid measures to Mrs. Dunn including mooth>to-mouth resuslcation and attempted to get medical help. Dr. Bo) Ridiards, county coroner, ruled the shooting as accidentlal. Ed Ozimek Killed In Auto Crash SEPTEMBER 23, I97l' Edward Robert Ozimek, 46, of 532 Church Street. Mocksville. was killed instantly Monday night when his 1971 Pinto smashed into the bridge abutment of Dutchman Creek on US M, 2.8 miies east of Mocksville. Mr. Ozimek was returning home from a meeting of the board of directors of the Hickory Hill Golf and Country Qub. He was secretary of the club. Other members of the board of ^rectors were immediately behind Mr. Ozimek and arrived upon the scene Immediately after the crash. These men called for the ambulance and extricated him from the car in which he was penned. . State Highway Patrolman Randall Beane investigated the accident. Trooper Beane reported Ozimek's car was being driven west towards Mocksville when the car ran off the highway on the right side. The car crashed into (he bridge abutment and the nearby bridge sign post. The accident oc curred around 9:30 p.m. Tlie Ford Pinto was a total loss and had only 3,000 miles on the speedometer at the time of the accident. Mr. Ozimek was manager of shop operations for the Mocksville Plant of the Ingersoll-Rand Company. He had been a resident of | Mocksville since June 1969. Bom July 4th, 1925 In New Jersey, he was the son of Lewis and Mary Graczyk Ozimek. A -veteran of World War II, he graduated from Purdue University In 1952 with a BS degree in Trade and Industrial Education, He started to work on June ife, 1952 for Ingersoll- Band at their Painted Post, New York plant as project • engineer. He worked at Painted Post until June 1969, when he was transferred to Mocksville. He was secretary of the Hickory Hill Golf and Country ; Club; a member of the Mocksville Rotary Club; an Elder and Sunday School I teacher in the First ' Presbyterian Church, Mocksville. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Shapiro; a son, Daniel; and two daughters, Patricia and Susan of the home; ! Ed Ozimek his father and mother of ' Bayonne, N.J.; three sisters. Brown, a Mockivllle native, died last Friday In the Southeastern General Hospital In Lumberton at the age of 100. Mrs. Brown had been a lifelong resident of Davle Oounly until around a year ago vdwn she moved with her ^Uf^lers to Lumberton. She waa the former MeeUe Ann Leach and was bom in the Jericho section of Davie County on S^terober 19,1805 to David and,.MeIlnB Warren Leach. After receiving her education in the schools of Davle County, she was married on December SO, 1683 to Mack D. Brown, who pas^ aWay on Octobtf 16, 1941. From 1893 to 1070 she lived In her home on North Main Street In Mocksvilie. Bom one year after the Mocksvilie Baptist Oiurch waa organUed, soe Joined the Mrs. M.D. Brown church In 1B87 and fbr many years had renaiaed Ha oMeat living member. An avid Democrat, Mrs. Brown voted in the preaidciDti^ election of 19S0—the first year wranen were allowed to vote. She recalled voting for Jamet H. Cox for presidmt and fw a man later to become her favwita president, Franklin D. Roosevelt, for vice president. She had celebrated her 106th birthday on June 30. The previous week, Mrs. M. D. Brown also died at the age of 106. Mrs. Stimson was bom on June SO, 1865, in Davie County, the daughter of the late David and Mary Heathmen Crenshaw. Her husband, WlUiam Jasper Stimson died In September of 1929. KATHERINE DETMOLD Funeral services for Mrs- Katharine Dsvisi Detmold, 74. formerly of Davle County, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at Voters Heynoldia Road Chapel in Winston Salem by Dr. Randall U>Uey. Burial was in Forsyth Memorial Park. Mrs. Detmold died Wed nesday, Dec. IS.at Knollwood Hall. She has been In declining health for four years and seriously ill a week. She was a retired supervisor of music in the Winston Salem schools. Mrs. Delnold was bom in Davie County near MocksvUIe on Feb. 3. 1697 to Samuel and ^ty Louise Hendrickt Davis. Her early education was in the public schools In Winston Mlem. She received her A.B. and music degrees from Salem Collie and did graduate work at New York University and in Boston. Mass. A career in music leaching was a childhood ambition for Mr. Fowler remained active in his soft drink business imtU he became 111 about 18 months ago. He was chairman of board of Charlotte's Pepsi Cola Bottling Company and its GastonlB aubsldalry. He owns and assisted In the management of a larger farm near the Davie-Rowan county Una on Highway 601, Rt. 1, Salisbury, at ^uth Yadkin River, where his sister. Miss Sarah Fowler resides. In addition to his sister, Mr. Fowler la survived by one daughter, Mias Margaret Fowler of Charlotte; one granddaughter and three ^eat- grand^ldren; and a number of nieces and nephews, some of Rowan County.
