ity Sunday School, which is to
he non-denoimnational. Mr. D..
H. Hendricka, T.'I. Caudell and
C. M. Reeves met with the lead
ers and helped th?jn to organize.
Three classes were formed ana
the mennbership numbers 29. The.
officers are: E. D. Poole^ super-,
intendent; W: P. Ferebee, assist
ant superintendent; and D. R.
Beck, secretary and treasurer/
Sunday School' will 'be held each
Sunday afternoon at 2:30, 'and
a cordial invitation is given to
all interested friends to attend.

Mrs. Byerly was the wlfeof Islah Byerly whodonated the land In 1B87 on

BYERLY'S CHAPEL METHODIST CHUI^CH
Byerly's Chapel, a Protestant Methodist Church, was organized May 1, 1887 with seven members; five of whom transferred from Bethel.
The Circuit Minutes indicate that the leader in this organization was Isaiah Byerly, wlio was a trustee. •—
On August 20, 1887. Isaiah Byerly and wife, Mary, sold to William A, Byerly and Joseph Cartner, "Trustees of the Methodist Protes
tant Church of Davie County," one and one-half acres.
In recent years die late Wm. A. Byerly took care of the church building and nearby cemetery. The cemetery is much older than the
church, and here are buried the Neelys, Aliens, Byerlys and other families of the community.
Dr. J. Edw. Smoot, a native of Davie County, said that the great wooded gorge to Hunting Creek, just east from Byerly's Chapel, was
known as the old "Cornwallis Road."
