I'm sure that you are aware of this book, as it contains much information on the Willcockson and Boone families. I visited Joppa Cemetary in Mocksville in July and I plan to go back in November. According to the memorial there, erected by the Committee for the 250th Anniversary of Daniel Boone's Birthday, Inc., John Willcockson is buried in Joppa Cemetary in an unmarked grave. As you were the chairman for the above committee, can you tell me if there is any documentary evidence that Joppa Cemetary is the resting place of John Willcockson? There is a valuable source of information on their descendants, , Wilcoxson and Allied Families (1958) by Dorothy Ford Wulfeck. This is the most complete and most accurate information that I have seen. Check with your local library and see if they have a copy; if not the Davie County Public Library will xerox pages dealing with your Wilcoxson line at 10¢ per page, with a basic fee of $ 3.00 for answering your inquiry. JONES Box 1203 Globe, Arizona 85502 Dear Mrs Jones: HOWELL BOONE Boone Farm Road Route 1 Box 365A Mocksville,NC 27028 TEL: (704) 492-5307 24 January 1985 I did list Wilcocksons in the Volume II of North Carolina Ancestors, but they were Boone-Wilcocksons - the spouse or off- spring of Sarah [Boone] Wilcockson (1724-1815) the oldest child of Squire and Sarah [Morgan] Boone. Sarah, a birthright Quaker, was born 07 June 1724 in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She was living with her family in Exeter Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania, when she met and fell in love with John Wilcockson, who is believed to have been born in Pennsylvania, perhaps in Philadelphia. He was a non -Quaker, and their marriage met with the disapproval of the Exeter Friends Meeting. When Squire moved his family from Exeter to the wilds of the Carolina Piedmont, John and Sarah [Boone] Wilcocksbn accompanied them, and it was here that their last seven children were born. There is no known connection between John Wilcockson and the Maryland Wilcockson/Wilcoxen family. I will file your listing of the Maryland Wilcoxen line in the History and Genealogy Room of the Davie County Public Library; it adds to our Wilcockson/Wicoxen/Wilcox information. You will note on the Wilcockson listing I enclose that John Wilcockson died @1800 and was buried here - perhaps near Z his son Isaac Wilcockson in Joppa Cemetery on the outskirts of % Mocksville, in Davie County, North Carolina. After the death of her husband, widow Sarah [Boone] Wilcockson went to Kentucky - where she died in 1815. ' Davie County Public Library Mocksville, NG c F There are no known descendants of John and Sarah [Boone] Wilcockson in present-day Davie County, North Carolina. Wilcockson and Allied Families (Willcockson, Wilcoxen, Wilcox) compiled and published in 1958 by Dorothy Ford Wulfeck was a main source of information for the entires I submitted to Volume II of North Carolina Ancestors. Have you consulted her book.? I do not recall any mention of Maryland Wilcoxens in this book. Admittedly this is negative information I have fur- nished, but it does eliminate John Wilcockson (c1720 -c1800) as a known relation of your husband's Wilcoxen line.
