Webb1 984 DANIEL B 0 0 N E ANNIVERSARY PIEDMONT COMMITTEE FOR THE 250TH ANNIVERSARY OF DANIEL BOONE'S BIRTH, INC. 371 North Main Street, Mocksville, North Carollpa ?,7025 President: HOWELL BOONE Telephone: Vice -President: PETER HAIRSTON (704) 634-2023 Secretary: LYNNE TROUTMAN 23 May 1984 DAVID G WEBB Jr 101 'White Heron Lane Summerville,SC 29483 Dear Mr Webb: Enclosed is a tentative schedule of the Daniel Boone Commemorative events during the long weekend of 19-22 October 1948. Also enclosed is a listing of souvenirs available and a sketch of the truly dif- ferent (outstanding?) trpphies for the Turkey Shoot. In response to your Webb inquiry, I have xeroxed the "entire" WEBB FILE that is all that is available in the History and Genealogy -Room of the Davie County Public Library. All items were generated by one Walter E. Webb (a cousin of yours?) of Celina, Tennessee. I've again re -read -the Webbentries in Mrs Spraker=s The Boone Family (1922). Several thoughts come to my mind: Unless physically limited - most colonial dames had about a dozen children - not all of whom lived to maturity,, Most of the Webb birth lists are partial at best. The period when your Webb ancestor "looses his family ties" was one of political and social turmoil. Many youths just took off when they felt ready to con- duct their own lives without parental guidance. Many of them "hit the frontier" where land (and life?) were cheap. Some even changed their names. I know of a Chadd family in Kentucky whose male ancestor was an early settler of the Blue Grass State. His father was a Chadwick - son just shortened the name. Webb, at least, is all but impossible to shorten.,* In my mind, Pennsylvania is still the best place' to search out John and Mary [Boone] Webb and their o descendants. Study the Exeter Friends Monthy Meeting f Records, and then, the records kept by the wave of Germans who settled in amongst the English -Welsh - "Irish" Quakers of Berks County, Pennsylvania, almost entirely replacing them by the 1790 First U S Census. I concentrate almost exclusively on "my" John Boone (1727-1803)- of Hunting Creek, and his descendants which includes' my brother and myself. Only a long-time researcher like yourself is aware of the amount of in- conclusive data, missing documents and gaping holes I've ? ti. encountered in my search for full & complete certainty. a M With all good wishes, a " Davie Co. Since 1975 I have conducted research on my Webb family. Nty ancestor, George Webb, married Nancy Knuckles on 13 Feb. 1795, Botetourt Co., VA. I have written a book, "Webb Family of Bearwallow Ridge," that lists over 14,000 descendants of George and Nancy. Tradition has strongly indicated that my George Webb was Boone related. It seems quite logical that my ancestor was a descendant of John Webb who married Mary Boone in 1720, Berks Co., PA, as Quakers. I traced -t theifamilies l 'y of George Webb b 1723 and James Webb b 1737/8, but I have not been successful in locating other descendants. As you probably know, Mary(Boone)Webb was a sister of Squire Boone and Daniel Boone's aunt. One strong clue involves property my George Webb owned in July, 1795. He owned 100 acres on Dutchmann's Creek, Surry Co., NC which is located less than 30 miles from Mocksville. Further, my George Webb bought the land from a John Moore. Tradition indicates that one of the sons of John and Mary(Boone)Webb married a Moore. Another clue I have not been able to expand information on involves Samuel Webb b 23 Mar 1740 who m Rebecca, Paine. This son of John and Mary(Boone)Webb had a 5th child, George Webb.,who was born after 1770 and prior to 1775. I have reviewed the "Boone Family" in several libraries. It lists the family of John and Mary(Boone)Webb th%ugh the 2nd generation. I hope you can help me to contact a Boone family genealogist who can help me with my research. Thank you very much. I will be struggling in the coming weeks, trying to verify the linkage of my George Webb with the Boone family. Tradition strmngly.indicates that my ancestor was John Webb b 1694 who married Mary Boone, daughter of George Webb,III, on 3 Jul 1720 as Quakers, Berks Co.,PA. George was a brother of Squire Boone, father of Daniel Boone. Known issue of John and Mary (Boone)Webbs John Webb b 1721;George Webb b 1723sMary Webb b 1726;Sarah Webb b 1729;Benjamin Webb b 1732;Joseph Webb b 1?35;James Webb b 1737; Samuel Webb b 1740 and Moses Webb b 1743. I have a hunch that my ancestor was Samuel Webb b 1740 who m Rebecca Paine. They had several children, including a George Webb b 1770-75. I have the Jones Memorial Library conducting research for me. If they can verify that Samuel was my ancestor, I then can complete my research of my Webb line that dates back to 1431 when Alice Webb, daughter of Sir Thomas Webb m William Richmond who took the surname Webb. I hope you will have a successful 2150th celebration of Daniel Boone's birthday. I note on the map of the April, 1984 issue of "Boone Pioneer Echoes" that George Boone owned property on Bear Creek. I presume that George Boone was the father of my Mary(Boone) Webb. If you wish, I can provide you with names and addresses of some of the family groups of descendants of John and Mary (Boone)Webb. Again, it was fine seeing you, even if it was jery brief. Re fullPJrs. David G. We DeN ie County. Public ObTa'N Mocks, olje, NO
