Marie Roth will describe her project for the history room of compiling information about early schools in our county. Members are encouraged to share information or photos with these 2 projects. FEBRUARY 24 MEETING: Mark Hager will update us on the filming and information about Joppa. Cemetery. An archeological team has been studying this old cemetery where Daniel Boone’s parents are buried. They have also assembled a list of persons interred there. MARCH 24 MEETING: to be announced. Look at the web site listed above to determine program. Future topics will be scrapbooks, Calahaln Township, and Hodges Business College building. MAPS: This month’s Dossier cover went back to the format of previous issues. This is really a neat map that Nancy Wall drew in 1969. It shows so many historical features of Davie County. Have you really studied this map? We have many historic sites near us that we need to learn more about and protect. Our society sells 3 different maps of our county. See page 7 for ordering. DUES: October 2008 and January 2009 are being sent to previous members who have not paid dues for a few years. We’re hoping you will pay your 2009 dues – only $5 per member per year unless you want to become a Life Member and then you won’t have to worry each year about paying tax deductible dues. See page 7 for paying dues. April 2009's issue will only be sent to those who have paid current dues. Look at the mailing label on page 8 to see if you need to pay. EARLY SCHOOLS IN DAVIE: Marie Roth, a volunteer in the Martin-Wall History Room, is compiling information about the early schools in Davie County. A 1907 newspaper article by the school superintendent mentions that there were 61 schools in the county at that time. If you have information about any of these old schools, photos, names, or location information, please communicate with Marie at MarieBCR@gmail.com . Hopefully, this school information will become a Web site for convenient researching.
