The 11 a.m. worship service was conducted by the Rev. Frederick A. Robbins and the Rev. D.W. Mashburn delivered the sermon. Miss Patricia Hendrix sang and the youth choir also gave a rendition. A donation for the beginning of an historic fund was made by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Potts. This fund was set up to make a place for the historic articles of the Dulin's Methodist Church. Following the morning worship service, a picnic style dinner was held on the grounds. An afternoon of singing was enjoyed by the large group attending. Several former pastors and their families attended. The ministers were: The Rev. J. W. Braxton who served at Dulins in the late twenties; the Rev. K. J. Holt who served in the late thirties; the Rev. D. W. Mash- bum who served in the mid- sixties; the Rev. Brown McKinney who served in the late sixties and Mrs. Powell Wilkins represented her late husband. The pastor, the Rev. P.A. The early meeting place was an old-fashioned arbor. According to Uncle Tom Foster, services were held in the arbor until about 1881 when the church was constructed. Pledges were taken to fmance this building project which was difficult because the South was stiU in a period of tight money. recovering from the tragic war. recorded on March 17. 1876. P.N. Austin (1897-round 1900 Dulin became a part of the Mocksville Circuit and the pastor moved to Mocksville. The parsonage was old and in 1910 was moved by a t^m of oxen to a spot behind the present parsonage. Another chapter was written when Mrs. Ralph Potts ac companied Miss Florence Mackie, Davie County Home Demonstration Agent, to Hickory where she heard an extension specialist discuss "Home and Community Life". When Mrs. Potts returned home she began immediately to ac tualize a dream to build a building for community ac tivities. There were nine members in the Dulins Home Demon stration aub at that time. They were: Mrs. Ralph Potts, Mrs. J.K. McCulloch, Miss Addie Mae Foster, Mrs. H.R. Hendrix, Sr., Mrs. G.B. McDaniel, Mrs. Thurmond Foster. Mrs. Herbert Barney, Mrs. George Jolly, and Mrs. J. Frank Hen- : drix. Through the labors of their husbands and material donated by Harwood Hendrix and others, the unit was completed in 1946. The next addition was a parsonage constructed in 1951. The Dulins community worked in a cooperative way with much free lalwr and materials given by Haywood Hendrix, Sr. and others. The Rev. F.R. Loflin help guide the construction projects which was completed in the fall of 1951. The Rev. Bruce Roberts was the first to occupy this new parsonage which was built on the site of the old Dulin Com- munithSchool. Mr. Roberts was the first minister to serve the newly organized Dulin Charge which was composed of Dulin, Bethlehem, and Smith. Grove. Bethlehem and Smith Grove furnished the new parsonage. In 1954, the Dulin Church forged ahead under the leadership of the Rev. George E. Smith (1953-1955). The sanctuary was remodeled and an educational building of five units were added at a total cost of 536,500.00. The Dulin Charge is now a two point charge made up of Smith Grove and Dulins. Their first meetings of worship were held in a Brush Arbor. In 1876 Mr. P. N. Dulin gave 3.75 acres of land to Daniel Potts, Henry Call and James Walker, trustees of the Dulin Methodist Church. The first Church was built on this lot, and served the needs of the people until 1936 when it was completely renovated into a more modern building. In 1954 the building was again renovated and an Educational Building added. The Fellowship Hall which stands adjacent to the church was started in 1973 and completed in 1974. This church has grown in membership from the faithful few in the beginning to its present membership of approximately one hundred and fifty.m Telephone: 998-5409 Parsonage: 998-6171 INFORMATION FOR PASTOR (Please tear off and place in offering plate or give to Pastor) S -i^ C> Name Address □ Desires pastoral call □ Is ill at home □ Is in Hospital □ Address change Telephone □ Desires to join church □ Interested in baptism □ Newcomer in community □ Visitor Most convenient time for a visit Information furnished by Date NOTE: A well-informed minister becomes a good pastor.
