Killed by a tree.
Jamea Seamond, jonngest son of
Daniel Seamond, came to Mocksville
Monday morxung to get some medi
cine to enre him of the chills* He
left this place some time during the
day for bis home in Rowan county,
but he neyer reach it, for while cross
ing the South Yadkin river just above
Bencher's Foanl, in a flat a tree fell
across the flat, einking it and killing
him, it is thought, instantly. His
(htiier, who came with him to this
place, did not retom until Tuesday
morning. He inquired of the family
if *'Jim** bad got home, and was told
that be had not He then went to
the river and found one end of the
flat out of the water with the tree
still on it Search was made and
the body pulled ont flora under the
tree, with the bead cmshed and the
collar bone broken. The tree was a
live tree and no doubt its fall was
caused by washing away of the
earth firom around it.

his dead body bad been found, lyis^
on the floor of bis room, amidst 11gool of blood. The coroner was ooi|^
ed and together with Mr. Grant, at
several others, proceeded to .the scei
of the tragedy. Spry, was lying
front of the fireplace, with a bole ah^
through his leg, from which he bt
bled to death. After thoroughly li

turned a verdict, that the deceased
came to death by bis own bands, as be
was tracked by the blood, to where
lie had placed bis gun, after firing tl
fatal shot. Spry has been charg^
with the incendiaries that have bet

intended to wound himself and tbeil

Winfield Montgomery Sain
In Memoriam.
' On the night of the 28th of July,
Winfield Montgomery, the infant son
of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Sain, feel
asleep to awake no more in this sin-
fol world. It grieves ns to pen the
death of so lovely a babe, yet there
is consolation in the fact that in the
loss of this babe, so precious, an an
gel has been added to that Heavenly
Throng.
During his illness, he snifered in
tensely. But now he is free from all
bis untold miseries. Yes, he is
gone! Gone to those regions of
eternal bliss, where there is no night
and no sorrow.
Parents do not weep for this, your
only babe^ for you shall see him
again. A Res.ativb.
