He was born on July 28,1950 in Winston-Salem to the late William Earl "Scotty" Gregory and Mary Edra Green. He is survived by his wife, Stacy, of 38 years; his adopted daughter. Missy Taylor (Jim); son, Michael (Sarah); daughter. Savanna Click (Nathan); stepchildren, Tracy Fuquay and Michael Strickland (Beth); grandchildren. Erica Mabe (Patrick), Amber Groce (Jody), JD Mabe (LeighAnne), Bradley Mabe (Kristen), Coty Strickland, Heather Garland (Jake), Lisa Strickland (Josh), Marissa Roberts, Scotty Blankinship, Page Fuquay, Britney Blankinship, Anna Taylor, Keli Taylor, Daylin Click, Jacob Gregory, Mikayla Click, Aiden Cadmen, Deacon Click, and Elizabeth Click; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers. Bill (Shirley), Ron (Linda), Jerry, and Richard; sister, Barbara; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, Posie "Bud" Beck; sister-in-law, Judy Gregory; former brother-in-law, Alonzo Hester; and nephew, Russell Gregory. Mr. Gregory was drafted into the Vietnam War in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He was an infantryman and cook. After his military service, he worked at RJ Reynolds Tobacco company for 22 years then retired and started a furniture refinishing business, Davie Refinishing, until he medically retired in 2002. Mr. Gregory was an avid fisherman, loved hunting and shooting, and raising chickens and birds. He also loved gardening and woodworking, and made many beautiful pieces of furniture, walking canes, and bird houses. He was an excellent artist as well. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings playing cards, going on fishing trips, and being in nature. He was gentle, loving, and always willing to serve others. He was a friend to all and was known as the peacemaker among his siblings. Mr. Gregory was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was always willing to serve anyone in need. He served those in his family, his community, and his church family. His loving spirit will be missed among all his friends and family. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Clemmons with Bishop Kevin Griffin officiating. As an adolescent, he enjoyed playing baseball, and later softball, as well as hunting and fi shing; especially in Farmington. Later in life, he enjoyed playing cowboy, tiding bareback broncos in local rodeos before multiple injuries took their toll and led him to stop, but not before he learned to live by the motto "When you get knocked off the horse, you have to dust yourself off and get right back in the saddle." He enjoyed keeping up with the na tional rodeo circuits, and he especially enjoyed watching the PRCA on The Cowboy Chaimel. He started his career working on the tobacco market for RJ Reynolds, then on various farms around Davie Coun ty, including South Fork on Woodward Road and Whip O Will on Cana Road. Later, he worked as a project manager for Davis-Martin-Powell & Associates, a civU engineer ing firm in High Point, and then as public works director for Davie County. He knew many people in the county and would rarely drive down any road without waving to someone he knew. He had a deep respect for Native Americans and shared a passion for their culture and values, He collected many books and enjoyed studying the history of the tribes. He even learned to speak the Cherokee language. In 2015, he enjoyed a solo mission trip to Arizona to help rehabilitate a Christian church in the town of Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Reservation. Toward the end of his life, he enjoyed reading the accounts of early interactions with the Cherokee Indians from the persjjective of the Moravian Church. He was born on March 7, 1944, in Onondaga County, NY, to the late Fred W. and Louise E. Hollister Smith. He grew up at 215 Buckley Road and graduated from Liverpool High School. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He owned and operated Smith & Sons Electric for many years and founded Happy Days Drive-ln in Cato, NY, alongside his wife, which is still in operation today. Charlie was once a drag-racer, enjoyed classic cars, and loved music. He had a kind heart, rescued animals, and was a master of all trades. James Albert Faller December 17, 1927 - July 12, 2022 MOCKS VILLE—Mr. James Albert Faller, 94, of Dixie Way, passed away Tuesday, July 12, at his home. He was bom on December 17, 1927, in Davidson County, TN, to the late Fred Albert and Mae Irene Rains Faller. Mr. Faller served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was co-owner of an electrical business for many years, and later developed Paradox Farms. He loved working on the farm and spending time with his children and dogs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Mae Shemwell. Survivors include his children, Jim Faller (Joy) of Chattanooga, TN and Nancy Faller (Joe Martin) of the farm; two grandchildren, Nancy E. Faller (Mike Nolan) and James W. Faller (Brandi); and his furry companions, Celie and Penny. Pamela was born on July 18, 1946, in Maine. She was the daughter of the late Clement King and Marion (Caldwell) King. In addition to her parents, Pamela was preceded in death by her loving husband Dewey Newton and her brother, Robert Sherard. In life, Pamela graduated from Waterville High School. Later, she began a career in sales and worked with Avon for ten years, until she retired. Pamela was a Christian woman and was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. She was a dedicated member of the choir and was part of the Hostess Committee. Pamela was also a valued volunteer at Dragonfly House. David Allen Anderson March 16. 1930 ~ July 17, 2022 (age 92) David Alien Anderson, 92, passed away at Cadence Assisted Living in Clemmons, NO on July 17, 2022. He was born on March 16, 1930 near and resided in Valley City, North Dakota. The youngest child of Carl and Constance Olive Ludvigsen Anderson. Predeceased by his Beloved Wife, Margaret, and siblings Lloyd, Mrs. Carol Eide, Neal and Mrs. Beatrice Menconi. He is survived by his daughters, Evelyn Anderson (Jerry L. Hajek); and Karen Taquey (Tony) and his Adored Granddaughter Margaret "Maggie" Taquey. He and his siblings spent summers working on the extended family's wheat farm. Working from the age of 7 on the farm, David learned mechanics and farming. After graduating from College High School in Valley City in 1948, he enlisted in the US Navy where he was trained in photography. Navy testing showed David's educational attainment was equivalent to a Junior in College due to his intelligence and excellent High School preparation. David was accepted into the last class of cadets to become Naval Aviators without a college degree. Completing rigorous Officer Candidate School to receive his Commission as an Ensign, he entered the even more demanding course of Naval Flight training at the "Annapolis of the Air" fight school nicknamed "The Cradle of Naval Aviation" at NAS Pensacola. The difficult program and academic rigor are designed to psychologically challenge and test the breadth of ability, mental stability and intellectual prowess. The ability to handle extreme stress under pressure is required to become an excellent Naval Aviator. Upon receiving his Navy Gold Wings, his assigned squadron towed fleet practice targets off Guam during the Korean War. In the Navy for over 14 years, he only spent one night at sea, that while attaining his Carrier Landing Certification. Leaving active service, David became an airline pilot for United Air Lines in 1954 quickly reaching the rank of Captain in 1966. He was a proud member of the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) Residing in New Jersey, David flew multiple aircraft over his career, his favorites being the DC 8, DC 10 and 747. His exceptional spatial sense, love of flying, conscientiousness and skill provided thousands of passengers safe travels domestically and to the Far East routes including Hong Kong, Seoul, and Taipei. Throughout the 1970s, David owned various private planes and performed acrobatic flying in air shows. Concurrently he formed an aerial photography business taking amazing photos in the New Jersey / New York area. His second love was golf, so retiring in 1987, David happily relocated to Mocksville and joined Hickory Hill Country Club. In the early 1990's he moved into Bermuda Run. At Bermuda Run Country Club, playing golf most days, and Gin games in the clubhouse. David loved to dance. Swing and classical music and was a proficient trombone player. He loved to travel. Ski, play tennis, garden, fish, read, play board games and was a phenomenal card player. A loving and excellent Husband and Father, his real joy was his Granddaughter. ci A devoted Christian, he became a Covenant member of Christ Church. His faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ 2 guided his life. David was a man of Character and Integrity. He enjoyed boating, skiing, traveling and wood working. He and his granddaughter enjoyed painting a bam quilt together and were looking foward to painting another one before he became ill. He could be a prankster pulling pranks on his young sisters, daughters, and grandchildren. He enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren, and son-in-law, and dearly loved them all. Bailey, III "Brack", with whom she was married 59 years, until Brack's passing on January 2, 2021. Judy was a lifelong learner, avid reader and enthusiastic educator of all ages. Following graduation from Pfeiffer, she was a high school teacher until her marriage to Brack on December 30, 1962. She was Brack's number one fan, traveling while he played professional baseball with the Dodgers and Cincinnati organizations until 1966. Their love for travel continued throughout their lives together, including visits to every continent and 108 countries. Upon Brack's retirement from baseball, the couple settled in Winston-Salem where Judy taught at Draughon's Business College and later Forsyth Technical College. They later moved to Clemmons to raise their three daughters and then to Bermuda Run. The passion Judy had for encouraging others was evident in the energy that she poured into her children's interests and development: leading pre-Kindergarten classes, starting a neighborhood swim team, helping to establish a high school athletic support organization, as well as the many, many years of sports events and dance recitals. Judy enjoyed the outdoors and sharing the skills she had learned in Girl Scouts as a teen. A gregarious couple, she and Brack hosted many family dinners and get-togethers with church friends and neighbors where they would share videos of their travels. In spite of her worldly experiences, Judy would describe herself as simple: she loved the beach, little children and telling a good joke. A faithful member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem since 1965, Judy served in various ways over the years, including Sunday school teacher, church secretary and missionary. She and Brack made many lasting and treasured friendships at Wesley, as well as in their neighborhood. Judy will be remembered for her gentle but adventurous spirit and her love for family and friends. Elizabeth, as most called her, was raised in a loving family with her seven siblings and at an early age, became a member of Chinquapin Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Mocksville, NC. She graduated from Davie County Training School in Mocksville where her extra curricular activities included playing basketball, much like her recently deceased son, Newman, Jr. Elizabeth met and married the love of her life, Newman Lee Preston Dalton, Sr., from Iredell County, North Carolina. They shared 38 wonderful years of marriage. After a brief stay in New York, they returned to build a loving home together in Mocksville on what is now Dalton Road. Elizabeth was faithful in her church service, loved attending church, was a deaconess and faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she was a member of the Pastor's Aide Committee and served on the Culinary Committee. She had a huge collection of church hats and always wore one to match each of her outfits. Elizabeth worked more than 20 years at Hanes Knitting Company where she retired as a supervisor. Prior to that, she worked for Lawyer George and Mrs. Martin and their families became friends. She loved her children, adored her grandchildren and great-grands and doted on them. They knew how much she loved them. She was an excellent seamstress and loved sewing clothes for them, including beautiful outfits for Christmas and other occasions. She spoiled them every chance she had. She absolutely loved shopping and loved beautiful things. She loved to bake and was famous for her chocolate and 7-up pound cakes made from scratch, which she would often bake and mail to family on their birthdays. She enjoyed making lots of other delicious desserts. She loved traveling and was fortunate enough to be able to travel extensively with friends upon retirement and to visit family in Nebraska, Ohio, Colorado and New York to name a few. She often cruised with her sisters and friends. Elizabeth was pre-deceased by her husband, Newman Lee Preston Dalton, Sr. and her son, Newman Lee Preston Dalton, Jr., (February 2, 2022). O rt DO ii? ci »- <5 o I Hubert Alvin Motsinger, Jr. February 26, 1926 ~ August 9, 2022 (age 96) Hubert Alvin Motsinger, Jr., age 96 of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on August 9, 2022, at Kiser Hospice House surrounded by family. Hubert was born on February 26, 1926, in Hanse, NC. He was the son of the late Hubert Alvin Motsinger, Sr. and Selah (Beshears) Motsinger. In addition to his mother and father, Hubert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Lynn (Stanley) Motsinger, a daughter, Wanda Gail Motsinger, a son, William Gray Motsinger, a grandson, Joshua Gray Motsinger, Sr., one brother, and four sisters. In life, Hubert did our country a great service and served in the United States Navy. He was a World War II Veteran that worked on the USS Lewis picking up ROW from the Philippines. After his time in the military, Hubert chose a career as a machinist where he worked with Gravely until he retired. Whenever he had free time, Hubert loved staying with his friends and family at High Rock Lake Marina and Campground. He spent weekends and summers there for 46 years. Hubert loved the little things in life like singing gospel hymns, attending world record sized family reunions in Blue Ridge, GA, and creating memories with his family. Hubert leaves behind to treasure his memory, a sister, Helen Poindexter, three granddaughters, Christina "Gidget" Lynn Smith (Jason), Jennifer Lynnel Motsinger, and Jamie Renfroe (Chris), a grandson, Michael Hicks (Amy), five great-grandchildren, Joshua Gray Motsinger, Jr., Carson Hicks, Connor Hicks, Chevy Molina, and Kaitlyn Molina, along with many nieces and nephews from both the Stanley and Motsinger sides. Being the energetic and success driven person that he was, Leroy began working at Douglas Battery, where he was a dedicated employee for 22 years. In 1971, Leroy married Annie L. Hunter. The two later moved to Mocksvilie (her hometown) establish ing Mocksvilie as their home. The couple worked together at Douglas Battery and opened another venue, "J's Castle" in Farmington. Leroy was a dedicated husband, brother, father, cousin, grandfather and friend. He was everyone's favorite uncle. Leroy took pride in setting the tone for a dress style worth emulating by others. Truly he set the example. With passion he kept his cars immaculate and found joy in customization. Leroy had an avid love for riding motorcycles and sharing light-hearted intent with . others. One of his favorite savings was, "Let's see who can tell the best lies." Leroy loved the Lord and sported the reputation of being the first one at church each Sunday. He advanced through engineering and management achieving Senior Machine Development Engineer and Level 4 Supervisor. He was recognized for his numerous patents and published technical articles. He was instrumental in the development and production of the Nike Ajac guided missile control system proven in White Sands, NJVl., the first cellular telephone system developed in Oak Park, 111., and the first fully automated production line for carbon resistors. He was dso a pioneer in the de velopment and publication of a company wide program to recruit, train, and retain technical employees which was soon adopted and used by other industries. Grady, also known as "Grady Sr.", "The Origihal Grady", and sometimes, "Buddy", was bom at home and lived during the Great Depression with 5 siblings and had experienced being cold and hungry. Surviving those harsh times required the love and support of good parents, team- worit, and a lot of hard work and determination. He ex emplified the McClamrock trait of hard work and striving for perfection in all he set out to do. He had a multitude of interests, including raising all types of birds, tropical fish, and cows and won awards for his parakeets. He bought, renovated, sold, and leased many homes and enjoyed the challenges of maintaining and managing rental property. When the construction of Interstate 40 split the family farm in 1966, he bought the northern portion fix)m his par ents and built his home there where he resided until his death. He did a lot of the work himself, including making the kitchen cabinets, dining room, and living room fur niture and stonework. He was especially happy enjoying his back porch with the tranquil view of the geese on the lake and cows grazing in the pasture. He loved the family farm and serenity it brought him and worked with his son, Grady Jr., in keeping the farm productive and in the fam ily. He was happiest when he could take something old, shabby, or broken and with a lot of hard work and patience mm it in to something beautiful and useful. Grady loved and was a member of Oak Grove Unit ed Methodist Church since childhood, served on many boards and conunittees, and was generous to his church with his time and resources. He was also active at Lev/is- ville Methodist Church, Lewisville Civic Club, Dutchman Creek Watershed District, and Mocksville Masonic Lodge #134. He was also a significant benefactor of the Davie Community Foundation with the Cognition facility named in his honor. Grady married Sylvia Jo Gentry in 1951 and was father of Grady Lee McClamrock Jr. (Cathy) of Mocksville, and Larry Joe "Buddy" McClamrock of Raleigh. Grady mar ried Lucy Shaffer Allen in 1991 who remained a loving and devoted helpmate and partner in the real estate busi ness. They enjoyed many years of traveling to France, Pan ama, Alaska, and many states in America. In his declining years, Lucy took special care of him that insured that he was able to remain at home until very near his death. Together they managed the.Lake Junaluska Campground every summer for 13 years. The mountains of North Carolina were special to them. Win ters were spent traveling south for the Nomad Group doing mission work in the southem US states. Vada was very active in saving the old Cana School building, the first one room school house in Cana, NC where she attended, truly walking a mile to school. Serv ing in various roles for the Davie County Homemakers, Vada was known far and wide for her expertise in cooking and baking. A special request from the Ruritan Club was made every year for Vada to serve their celebration din ners. \^da was a faithful member of Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Mocksville. The Boger family has a rich history in that church dating back to 1859. She served as secretary and treasurer of three growth phases in the Church. She had a special love for United Methodist Wom en and worked faithfully on local District and Conference levels in the WNC Conference, traveling the country to represent the local club. Every year selling pecans, Happy Home Vanilla Flavoring and sending shoe boxes to Oper ation Christmas Child for Samaritan's Purse are just oth er examples of her faithfulness and service. A Storehouse for Jesus in Mocksville also appreciated her loving smile and years of service to the community. His fi- nal post, which he held for almost 40 years, was at Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers, NC. One of his greatest joys was music. He was a real-life Santa Claus and often donned the red and white suit for college and community events. His magnificent white beard, rounded middle, and jolly nature,, made him an obvious choice. His family knew he didn't need the suit because he was the real thing. Children would excitedly point and whisper whenever they saw him. One young fellow ran up to him and pulled on his shirt tail. When Dad said "hello," the little boy said, "I've been good, sir. I've been REAL good!" Sam was a musician, actor, artist, and gardener; everything he made (pottery, stained glass, copper enameling, macrame, needle crafts, basket weaving, jewelry, and paintings) expressed his love of life. His custom-designed and superbly dressed teddy bears were legendary. Each bear came with its number on a clay heart necklace and a small tag that read "Bears by Sam His horribly bad pun-filled jokes were also legend ary, and he shared them eagerly with everyone. You could tell when he had a new joke to fell from the twinkle in his eye. The joy he found in telling you each new joke was a ray of sunshine for your day, and the memory of those smiles will be forever in our hearts. Sam was a best Mend, loving husband, quiet leader, dedicated teacher, empathetic listener, lifelong learner, tal ented artist, musician, comedian, philosopher, and the very best dad. He excelled at being his true self, and inspired everyone around him. Survivors include: his wife of 65 years, seamstress, quilter, and co-hobbyist, Claire Pinkerton Cope; sister, Marie Ellis (Fred) of Mocksville; brother. For the next 40 years Jim held positions of increasing responsibility in manu facturing and logistics operations, including Almay Cos metics, the J.L.Prescott Co., Hanes Corporation's L'erin Cosmetics and the Direct Marketing Division, QVC Net work's Virginia distribution center, Sara Lee Corporation's Business Teams, and fi nishing his career at New Roads in Virginia. In the end, he spent 20 years with Sara Lee Corp. as Director of Manufacturing and Logistics Operations, enjoying their home in Bermuda Run where his career was brought to a successful close. Jim was well liked and loved by all who knew him. He endeavored to make his world a better place. He will be missed. James is survived by: his wife of 60 years. Robert was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Hamptonville, North Carolina and served on the Usher Board, as a Sunday School teacher and as the Sunday School Superintendent until his health began to decline. In his pastime, Robert could often be seen gardening, landscaping, working around his church, volunteering at various churches in the area, taking care of his community and watching sports on television. You would find him smiling as he watched his grandchildren play various sports. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Doretha Stevenson Dalton and his sister, Alvis Louise Redman. Despite health challenges, he lived an active and full life nearly un til the end. Always ready to share a laugh or lend a helping hand, Charles will be detuly missed by family and friends. Charles was bom on Jan. 14, 1939 in Supply. He was the youngest of 7 born to the late Mary and Samuel Vereen. '''' Charles later moved to Davie County where he would meet and marry Alice Doulin Vereen on July26,1969.Theyweremarried y As a young man (with good knees, as he would say), Charles worked as a longshoreman on the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge. Lovie Inez Williams Miss Lovie Inez Williams, 99, of Mocksville, passed away Monday, Sept. 26,2022,at Clemmons Village II As sisted Living in Clemmons. She was bom on March I, 1923 in Mocksville to the late Roy Everette and Lovie Ellis _ Williams. Inez was a member of Smith Grove United Methodist •: p' Church and attended regularly until her health did not allow, She graduated from Mocksville """ High School and entered the work world. Inez spent most of her life in Smith Grove commu- nity of Davie County and grew up on a dairy farm with her three brothers and three sisters. Over the years she enjoyed playing with nieces, nephews, and cousins when they came to visit, and they loved her in re turn. She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers. She retired from Indera Mills in Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: 2 brothers. Edwin and Ellis; and 3 sisters, Dorothy Williams, Frances Girlene Caudle, and Nellie Williams. Survivors include: a brother, Nathan Eugene "Gene" Williams (Jean) of Rock Hill, S.C.; and several nieces arid nephews. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2 at Smith Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Darren Crotts officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Curtis was born on May 22, 1980, in Gullford County, NC. He was the son of Nell Thomas Player and Linda Carol (Fields) Burke. In life, Curtis attended schools in Gullford County and was of the Baptist faith. He loved to make people laugh and was always trying to cheer people up. Curtis was a real people person which made him one of the best bartenders EVER. Curtis leaves behind to cherish his memory, his mother and stepfather Linda and John Burke, his father Nell Player, a brother Keith Fields, and his life partner, John Reeves.
