worked at HanesBrands Inc. for 26 years and was a Purchasing Agent most of her career. As her vendors
can attest, she took great pride in demanding and getting their lowest price. As longtime members of the
Wake Forest University Deacon Club, Eloise and John rarely missed a football or basketball game, home
or away and were able to enjoy many trips across the country following the Deacons. They developed
many friendships along the way, especially with basketball Coach Carl Tacy and basketball player Guy
Morgan and their families. They were also dedicated supporters of all of their grandchildren's sports and
theater activities. After retirement, Eloise was a tireless volunteer for many local charities. Notably, she
was instrumental in helping to sustain an annual fundraiser at Bermuda Run Country Club for over 20
years benefiting the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, raising over $800,000. To that end, it was fitting
that Eloise was able to spend her final three days there in peace and comfort. The family would like to
thank everyone for their love and support over the past three months, but especially her friends and
neighbors. Dr. Allen & Patty Chamovitz and Brad Troutman who were there every step of the way to
provide comfort, care and love for Eloise. Eloise would love knowing that anyone wishing to honor her
memory would do so with a donation to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home/Trellis, 101 Hospice Lane,
W-S, NC 27103. There will be a visitation at Bermuda Run Country Club on Jan. 28, 2022 from 3:30 -

Mabel Dunn Ritchie
June 27, 1925 - February 16, 2022
Mabel Dunn Ritchie, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home in Bermuda Village, Advance, NC on
February 16, 2022, surrounded by family members. She will be dearly missed by her surviving children:
Dorothy Spath (Charles) of Mansfield, MA; Dr. Jack Ritchie (Chris) of Winston-Salem, NC; Kenneth D.
Ritchie (Christine) of Garden City, NY; and Stephen M. Ritchie (Lisa) of Charlotte, NC. She also will be
missed by her seven surviving grandchildren: Megan Mitchell (Elliot) of Washington, D.C.; Claire Furr
(Joshua) of Raleigh, NC; Andrea Ritchie of Asheville, NC; Brian Spath of Hartford, CT; Kristin Gordon
(Craig) of Attleboro, MA; Ken Ritchie of Tulsa, OK; and Kyle Ritchie of Garden City, NY. She also leaves
behind three wonderful great-grandchildren: Paxton Furr (5), Delilah Furr (2), and Aidan Mitchell (3). Also
surviving are two loving sisters: Cathy Kiley of Garden City, NY and Sister Dorothy Dunn of the Grey Nuns
of the Sacred Heart of Philadelphia, PA, along with many nieces and nephews that were part of her
extended family and provided her with much joy. A New York native, Mabel was born on June 27,1925 in
Queens, NY to John and Mabel Dunn. Her life took her from her hometown in NYC to Albany NY, later to
FL, and eventually to NC, prompted by her husband's failing health. A truly brilliant mind, Mabel started
high school in NYC at age 11, and graduated from Queens College in NYC at age 19. She started her
career in advertising at Dancer Fitzgerald in NYC. She married the love of her life, John F. Ritchie in
November of 1950. Mabel then devoted the next phase of her life to raising, educating and cultivating a
strong faith in her four children as members of St. Pius X Catholic Church and School. Mabel had an
engaging personality, and was known for her charm, grace and intellectual curiosity. This, combined with
her interest in golf, tennis, and duplicate bridge, helped her meet and develop life-long friendships. She
enjoyed fostering these skills as a member of Wolferts Roost Country Club in Albany, NY for 36 years,
then later at the Plantation Country Club in Venice, FL, and finally at Bermuda Run Country Club in
Advance, NC. Through her move to NC, Mabel found a strong new community - both at Bermuda Village
and as a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons. She enjoyed spending her final years
with new friends, playing rounds of golf into her nineties and played bridge to within months of her death.
Mabel's family takes great comfort in the belief that Mabel and her husband are together again. They
would also like to express their sincere appreciation to the special caregivers who provided a warm and
caring environment for Mabel over the past many months of her declining health. A Funeral Mass will be
celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church on Friday, February 25 at 11:00AM. The family will receive
visitors at a luncheon immediately following in the church's Family Center. In lieu of flowers, donations
can be made to Trellis Supportive Care (https://www.trellissupport.org), a hospice organization that was
instrumental in facilitating care of Mabel in her final days. Online condolences may be made at

William C. Howard Sr.
A prince of a man, William C. Howard Sr. (Clegg),
shed his house of clay, and was promptly escorted by the
angels on a heavenly flight, to a place of perfect rest and
peace, on March 23,2022.
Clegg was known by the life
. he lived, the Lord he loved, and a
Sf ' legacy that is not easily followed.
I " He was a man of integrity, a con-
genial spirit and unmatched hu-
n \ i mility. He was a true Christian, in
wa-. every sense of the word, profess-^ "s .>•, : ing Christ in 1958 at Hanes Bap-
a tist Church. He served God there
faithfully in many capacities:
Sunday School Teacher, Sunday
School Superintendent, a mem
ber of the Building Committee, a
member of the Board of Deacons, and Treasurer. No one
has to wonder whether Clegg was a Christian, for it was
manifested in his daily life. Evident in his life was the fact
that He found the will of God, followed the will of God,
and never forsook the will of God. He used the Bible as
his instruction for daily living as well as for rearing his
children. He served his family by Biblical example, lov
ing unconditionally. In turn, his family truly loved and re
spected him.
Clegg was bom June 27, 1931 in Advance of Godly
parents, Willie Thomas Howard and Clara James Howard.
Surviving to mourn his loss and treasure the many
memories they made are: 2 brothers. Rev. Hobert Howard
and wife Marguerite, and James Howard and wife Pauline.
Clegg has two deceased siblings - a brother, Raymond
Howard, and a sister, Dorothy Howard Sparks.
He had many other relatives and loved them all.
Clegg loved his country and proudly served in the U.S.
Army. He supported several charities serving the needs of
veterans. He retired from AT&T with approximately 40
years of service. During his career, he was a. machinist,
draftsman and an engineering lab technician." On Oct. 23,
1955, Clegg married Imogene Lowe, whom he met at a
gospel singing. God blessed them richly with two wonder
ful children: a son, William C. Howard Jr., (Chip) and wife
Beth and a daughter, Glna Renee Howard. He enjoyed his
tNvo .grandchildren: a grandson. Dr. Ward Howard, and
wife Kate, and a granddaughter, Lauren Faith Howard.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rupali Roy Bhave, Clegg's
oncologist, for her exceptional care and for the remark
able compassion and concern of Nurse Practitioners Sar
ah Dralle and Megan Manuel. The entire team at Atrium
Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center
deserves our praise, including nurses, check-in staff, valet
attendants, and volunteers. Clegg enjoyed the company of
Don McBride and Danny Riddle, who accompanied him
to several treatment appointments. Thanks also to Char
ity Billings at A.medisys Hospice for her compassionate
care and support, The family was blessed by the skill and
compassion of a team of home caregivers: Amanda, Tee,
