She was the oldest member of
Faith Baptist Church, where she
was a member of the Willing
Workers Sunday School Class.
Her husband, E.D. Brooks, died
Jan. 25, 1956.
Survivors include three sons,
Henry A. Brooks of China Grove,
James M. Brooks of Salisbury and
Charles Wesley Brooks of Hunts-
ville, Ala.; three other daughters,
Thelma Livengood of Cooleemee

Hinshaw Foote, 83, 505 Bond St.,
Statesville, died Sunday at the
Brian Center Care in Hickory
following a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 26. 1902, in
Davie County to the late Alvin and
Quila Cain Foote. He was educated
in the Davie County School
System, was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Statesville,
where he taught the Men's Sunday
School class for many years. He
was a Mason and a member of Mt.
Carmel Lodge 37. Mr. Foote was
employed at Sherrill's Furniture
Company prior to retirement.
He is survived by .several
relatives in Davie County.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday, July 5, at 11 a.m. at the
First Baptist Church. Statesville.
with Dr. J.C. Harris officiating.
Burial will follow in the Belmont
cemetery.
The body will be at Davis &
Mangum Mortuary until taken to
the church to lie in state, one hour
prior to the service. No formal
visitation hour will be held.

syih Hospital.
He was born August 9,1899, in
Catawba County to Robert T. and
Emma Honeycutt Hawn. He spent
his early life and education in
Catawba County. He was a
graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College
in 1926. He obtained his masters
degree in education in 1944 from
the University of North Carolina.
He coached and taught in high
schools in Granite Falls and
Marion before coming to Winston-
Salem and R.J. Reynolds High
School in 1934. Mr. Hawn was
recreational director for P.H.
Hanes Knitting Co. from 1947 to
1962. He officiated in baskeball '
games and major football bowl
games. He was commissioner of
the Carolina Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference for several
years.
In 1977, he was inducted into the
Lenoir-Rhyne Sports Hall of
Fame. He was inducted as a
member of the Winston-
Salem/Forsyth County Spoits Hall
of Fame on May 23, 1986. In
1983, Mr. Hawn was honored as
Senior Citizen of the Year in For-
syth County. He was a member of
Winston-Salem Civitan Club and
Augsburg Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife. Helen

Mabel E. Kellogg, a former resi
dent of Mocksville, died Tuesday,
July 29, at Riverside Hospital in
Newport News, Va.
She was bom in Corning, N.Y.,
Feb. 23, 1909, to the late Clinton
and Carrie Ballman. She was
preceded in death by her husband,
Gordon Kellogg, May I, 19SS.
While Mrs. Kellogg lived in
Mocksville, she was a member of
Blaise Baptist Church, where she
taught Sunday School.
Surviving is a sister, Alice Pish
of San Antonio, Texas, 7 nieces
and nephews.
Born Feb. 19, 192S, in Iredell
County, she was a daughter of the
late Robert Newell and Eva Mae
Whitley Owens. She was a retired
employee of Burlington Industries.
Survivors include four brothers,
Harold Owens of Cherry ville, and
Clarence, Marvin and Gordon
Owens, all of Mooresville; and five
sisters. Joyce Mclntyre of

after a short illness.
He was bora in Spartinburg,
S.C., to the lute Lawson and
Mamie Parker. He was a member
of St. John's AME Zion Church,
and was retired from North
Carolina Department of
Transportation.
Funeral services were to be held
on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at St.
John's AME Zion Church with the
pastor, the Rev. L.B. Speas, of
ficiating. Burial was to follow in
the church cemetery. The body was
to lie in state at the church one hour
prior to the service hour.
He is survived by two brothers,
William Parker of Mocksville and
Woodrow Parker of Columbus,
Ohio.

Baptist Hospital. He had been in
declining health for 3'A years.
He was bom August 29, 1929,
in Guilfoird County, the son of the
late Fred L. and Irene Meadows
Beeson. He attended Forsyth
County and Keracrsville High
Schools. He was a veteran of the
Korean Conflict serving in the U.S.
Navy. He was disability retired Ju
ly 1,1986, from the N.C. Forestry
Service, having been forest ranger
for Iredell County for the past 20
years. He was a member of the
Iredell County Fireman's Assoc.
and in May of 1986 was presented
a plaque for 20 years of dedicated
service as an Iredell County
Fireman.
On April 20, 1956. he was mar
ried to the former Frances Evans
in Guilford County, who survives.
Also surviving arc two daughters.

his home early Tuesday
morning.
He was 64.
He was also president and
owner of Reavis Ford of
MocksviJle,.
Reavis was first elected to the

in 1978, He was^ffe^ected in
1982, and this yehr, w^s the
Republican nominee for one of
two open positions on the
board.
He also served as vice chair- j
man of the board, as well as
chairman of the Northwest
North Carolina Piedmont Coun
cil of Governments.
"He was real dedicated in his
work and it's going to be a
tremendous loss to us," Coun
ty Board Chairman R.C. Smith
said. "He was dedicated to local
government, especially in ser
ving Davie County citizens.
"He always wanted what was
best for Davie County," Smith
said.

praised Reavis for his courage.
"One thing I learned soon
after coming to Davie County
... he was certainly a fighter.

after 21 years of service and was
also a retired insurance agent with
Charlotte Liberty Mutual Insurance

a number of years and was head
dietician at Rowan Memorial
Hospital from 1968 to 1970.

He was a well known ba.seball
player for several teams around this
area. He was a past member of the
VMCA and played on tliree cham
pionship volleyball teams. Mr.
Southern was a member of the First
Church of the Living God, where
he was a Sunday School teacher
and belonged to the Men's Bible
Class.
He is survived by his wife, Ar-

He was a well known baseball
player for several teams around this
area. He was a p^t member of the
YMCA and play^ on three cham
pionship volleyball teams. Mr.
Southem was a member of the First
Church of the Living God, where
he was a Sunday School teacher
and belonged to the Men's Bible
Class.

Kentucky Medical School. He
served his internship at UCLA and
his residency at Bowman Gray
School of Medicine.
Dr. Clark had practiced
medicine in Winston-Salem since
1972. He was president of Lynd-
hurst Gynecological Associates.
He was a member of Lutheran
Church of the Epiphany. He was
also a member of the Oldtown Club
and Downtown Rotary Club. Dr.
Clark was active in Planned
Parenthood and Leadership,
Winston-Salem. He was President
Elect of Forsyth County Medical
Society.
Surviving are his wife, Bonney

Heart, and the Distinguished Serv
ice Cross. He was a member of

death by three sons.
