Beginning Information
The Family History Library was first named the Genealogical Society of Utah and was founded in 1894.

Technology updates have digitized almost all these rolls, and they are available for viewing for free on the
Internet at www.FamilySearch.org Family trees can be listed, and research can be conducted at this site.
In 1963, Granite Mountain vaults were created for safe, long-term storage of microfilm and records.

Why save family records?
Throughout time, people in various parts of the world were committed to keeping track of lineage. Primitive
countries used the oral method. Scriptures and church history and basic organization of governments are all
based on the family. When you learn about your relatives, you will become a better person.
