Mrs. C C. Cherry died at Long's S&natorinm, Statesville. last Tues* day evening shortly after ten o'clock following ah illne^ of about three months. Mrs. Cherry was carried to the hospital' about three weeks ago and underwent an operation. It was thought after ihe operation that she would recover, but a change for the worse took place on Sunday and she gradually grew worse until the end came. The funeral services were conducted by ner pastor, Rev A. C. Swafford rbur^ay afternoon and the body laid to rest tn Rose cemetery beside her husband who died about seven years ago. Mrs. Cherry is surviv ed by her mother, Mrs. George Sheek, four brothers and four si.-*- ters, and also leaves five daughters, .Mrs. R 0. Seaber, Misses Gwyu. .Matiie Connor, Virgiiya and Caro lyn. all of this city. To the aged .nolher, brothers.and sisters and the motherless children, the sympathy of the entire connnuuity goes out. Richard VanBaton, one of Day^ county's oldest citizens, died at bis home near Mocksville Satur day morning at eleven o'clock, aged 89 years. .The funeral and burial services were conducted by Rev. A. As the truck sped on past, Mr. Stroud jumped his head strik ing the pav^ruent. He was taken to his home and the attending phy sician, Dr.Grose, .did not consider his injuries serious at first. Ue had planted a dynamite under a stump and it failed to explode. He went to the stump tb examine the cap, and had a box of caps in his hand or pocket when the dynamite, exploded, tearing off one of his haiid.s breaking both of his leg.s, and badly mangling his neck, chest and abdoinan. He had been helpless after a stroke of paralysis for some days and bis death was not unexpected. Dr. Anderson was born in Davie county nearly seventy years ago and grew up on a farm there, ile acq[uired. a medical educational and ^was admitted to practice about • more than forty years ago.
