Dear Friend of Zion Chapel;
As one of the contributors to the Zion Chapel Fund, we are inviting you to our Homecoming at
Zion Chapel. The donations from the "Friends of Zion Chapel" have made possible some
repairs and exterior painting of the church. Community Covenant Church plans to focus on
and rededicate Zion Chapel during the morning worship service. Following the morning
worship service; everyone is invited to the Sheffield-Calahain Community Center for a
fellowship meal. The afternoon service will be a "Hymn Sing" with congregational singing as
well as musical selections sung by the Community Covenant Church choir. Please plan to
attend this Sunday as we endeavor to preserve our Methodist heritage by celebrating in this
local historic structure.

1 My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim,
to spread thro' all the earth abroad,
the honors of thy name.
3 Jesus, the name that charms our fears,
that bids our sorrows cease;
'tis music in the sinner's ears,
'tis life and health and peace.
4 He breaks the pow'r of reigning sin,
he sets the pris'ner free;
his blood can make the foulest clean,
his blood availed for me.
5 He speaks, and list'ning to his voice,
new life the dead receive;
the mournful, broken hearts rejoice;
the humble poor believe.
6 Hear him, ye deaf; his praise, ye dumb,
your loosen'd tongues employ;
ye blind, behold your Savior come;
and leap, ye lame, for joy.

Hymn "The Church's One Foundation"
1 The Church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ her Lord;
She is His new creation By water and the Word.
From heav'n He came and sought her To be His holy Bride;
With His own blood He bought her, And for her life He died,
2 Elect from every nation, Yet one o'er all the earth.
Her charter of salvation. One Lord, one faith, one birth;
One holy Name she blesses. Partakes one holy food.
And to one hope she presses. With every grace endued.
3 'Mid toil and tribulation. And tumult of her war.
She waits the consummation Of peace for evermore;
Till, with the vision glorious. Her longing eyes are blest.
And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest.
4 Yet she on earth hath union. With God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion. With those whose rest is won:
0 happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we.
Like them, the meek and lowly. In love may dwell with Thee.

VICTORY IN JESUS
1. I heard an old, old story,
How a Savior came from glory,
How He gave His life on Calvary
To save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning.
Of His precious blood's atoning.
Then I repented of my sins
And won the victory.
Chorus:
0 victory in Jesus,
My Savior, forever.
He sought me and bought me
With His redeeming blood;
He loved me ere I knew Him
And all my love is due Him,
He plunged me to victory.
Beneath the cleansing flood

2. I heard about His healing.
Of His cleansing pow'r revealing.
How He made the lame to walk again
And caused the blind to see;
And then I cried, "Dear Jesus,
Come and heal my broken spirit,"
And somehow Jesus came and bro't
To me the victory.
3. I heard about a mansion
He has built for me in glory.
And I heard about the streets of gold
Beyond the crystal sea;
About the angels singing.
And the old redemption story,
And some sweet day I'll sing up there
The song of victory. ^ _ ... ,

Linger near the Eastern Gate,
For I'm coming in the morning;
So you'll not have long^to wait.
3. Keep your lamps all trimmed and burning;
For the Bridegroom watch and wait;
He'll be with us at the meeting
Just inside the Eastern Gate.

Community Covenant Church will celebrate
homecoming and have an afternoon sing at the
old Zion Chapel Church on Sheffield Road.
Homecoming: Community Covenant
A few years ago, a small church was looking for a home
in Sheffield or the surrounding community. Shortly there
after, they were able to rent the brick Zion Chapel Church
being used as office space by the owner, New Union UMC.
This small church was Community Covenant.
It is one of the largest small churches in the area. In Au
gust 2017, Community Covenant purchased the Zion Cha
pel property from New Union. Since the purchase, updates
to the old white Zion Chapel Church have been completed.
The steeple has been repaired, the bell tower is complete
with the bell given to the'church by Pastor Rowan and Judy
Fay, and the outside of the church has been painted.
"It is such a blessing to see the love this churCh family
has put into preserving the history of Zion Chapel," said
Brenda Bailey.
The construction of the old Zion Chapel church build
ing was started in 1890. This wooden structure was used by
the congregation until Dec. 17,1961, at which time the first
service was held in the new brick structure. Zion Chapel
was also known to many as Hickory Grove.
On Sunday, Nov. 3 at 10:45 a.m., the homecoming ser
vice will be held in the old Zion Chapel Church. This spe
cial service will focus on and rededicate Zion Chapel.
After the morning worship, everyone is invited to a fel
lowship meal at the Sheffield-Calahaln Community Center
at 174 Turkeyfoot Road.
An afternoon "Hymn Sing" service with congregational
singing and musical selections by the church choir will be
gin at 2.
The community is invited to join the folks at Commu
nity Covenant for all services. The church is at 1446 Shef
field Road.
