Mr. and Mrs. John Williams
In what was attributed to a
I Jealous nature, John Williams,
76, who lived near Smith Orove
j murdered hU wife and then kill
ed himself last Tuesday morning
about 8 o'clock.
He and his wife, the former
Mrs. John Bedding, were mar
ried January 15, 1947. She was
50 years old.
Williams used a 12-guage
double-barreled shotgun, firing
one load Into the right temple
of his wife's head which blew
away most of the right side of
her head. He then re-loaded the
gun and shot himself in the
head, using a piece of wood to
pull the trigger. ,
Dr. O. V. Oreene, county cor
oner, examined the scene with
SherifT Paul Foster and deputies

Mr. and Mrs. Williams lived
In one side of a home known as

the home was occupied by Mrs.

to keep her company.

that the Williams couple had had
an argument on Monday prior
to the shooting, he having said
that 'Ho was going to the peni
tentiary but that he would have
something to go for." It was al
so said that he refused to allow
his wife to mingle with other
women In the home. A short time
ago, It was asserted, he paid bur
ial Insurance well In advance for
his wife and himself.
Sheriff Foster said that "ap-
1 parontly he was Just of a Jeal-
lous nature—but there were no
grounds for It."
The morning of the tragedy
the couple, however, appeared
to be on the best of terms. They
had several kittens which they
gave milk and bread in the yard,
commenting while they were
drinking.
Mrs. Williams was sweeping
the home, had Just completed
the house and was at the back
door sweeping, opening the
screen when her husband flred
apparently from only a few feet
away while standing In the yard.
She had the broom in her hand
and several shot penetrated the
handle.
