He was living with Mrs. Mamie
Bowles, a half sister, at the time

traveled for GMAC with head>
quarters in Winston-Saicm. He
moved to Mocksviile-in 1938 ac-
4iulring the Chevrolet franchise.
In 1942 he closed his automobile

'Office of Defense Transportation

sumed his business in Mocks-j
-ville. In 1945 he was elected
Mayor of AlocksvUle and served
one term.

War 1, he was active in the Ameri

in this organization. He was a
member of the Mocksville Meth

28 years, died Saturday night at
a Salisbury hospital. He had been
in declining health for two years.
He was born in Davie County
Jan. 25, 1870, the son of J. C.
and Amy Banks Spry. He was
married to Miss Mary Elizabeth
Foster who died in 1935.
Mr. Spry, who had made his
home in Cooleemcc since 1915,
was a member of the 15-year club
at Erwin Mills but had been re
tired for many years. He also
was a member of the Red Man's
organization and the Cooleeniec
Baptist Church.

Clarksville community and was
a member of Liberty Baptist
Church.

HUSBAND IN SERIOUS CONDITION

Mrs. Norma Brock, 65, of Far*
mington was killed instantly
about 10:45 a.m. Tuesday when
the car in which she was riding
with her husband collided with a
car operated by Charles A. Bunt
ing, about 40, of Asheboro.
Leo Franklin Brock, about 70,
was in serious condition in the
Randolph Hospital. As of Wed
nesday morning Mr. Brock had
not regained consciousness.
The accident occurcd about
three miles west of Asheboro on
highway 04. Mr. and Mrs. Brock
were headed for Chapel Hill to
bring back their son, Billy, who
had been attending summer school
at the University of North Caro
lina.
Mrs. Brock was thrown from
the car down an embankment
and was dead when investigatlrig
officers arrived on the scene. Mr.
Brock and Bunting, driver of the
other car, both seriously injured,
were rushed to the Randolph
County Hospital in Asheboro.
The accident occurcd at the
foot of B long hill and was appar
ently caused when Bunting ran
off the shoulder of the road and
swerved across to the opposite
side in an attempt to pull his ve
hicle back onto the pavement,
the investigating officers said.
Bunting wastraveling west, and
the Brock car was headed cast
toward Asheboro.
At press time no chorgcs had
been mode. Investigating officers,
Patrolmen W. W. Wilson ond G.
T. Lanu, report that the investi
gation Is incomplete.
Funeral ormngcmcnts for Mrs.
Brock wore being delayed pending
the outcome of injuries to her
husband.
The Brock's have one son, Billy,
who Is studying medicine at the
UnluersUy or North Curolino. »
Mrs. Brock was to have taught

the Ashcboro- hospital in serious
condition.

L. P. HendriXt 65, a school ad
ministrator for the past 38 years,
died at 3:45 Friday in a Winston-
Salcm hospital.
He was principal of the Hoke
County School system and vice-
president of the county chapter
of the North Carolina Education
Association. He was a graduate
of Wake Forest College and the
University of North Carolina.
Mr. Hundrix was married Aug.
18, 1622, to the former Lottie
Woodard. She died in 1644.
Surviving arc one son, Omcr

Mrs. Pearl Cranford Brown, 59,
of WoodlcaY, Route 1, died at 3:05
p.m. Thursday in a Salisbury hos
pital. She had been In the hospi
tal for three weeks, and in de
clining health for several years.
Born Feb. 28, 1801, in Cabarr-
us County, she was the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan T. Cran
ford. She was married In 1910 to
Graham Brown, who survives.
Also surviving are three daugh
ters. Mrs. Harold Foster of Cool-
eemcc, Mrs. Johnnie Baton of
Cann, Route 1, and Mr.«. Marvin
Chapel of Mocksvillc, Route 4;
four sons. Otis Brown of Wood-
leaf, Willis Brown of Woodleaf,
Walter and Clifford Brown of the
home; three brothers, R. E. Crnn-
Vor of Mooresville, Ollic Cran
ford of Concord and Adam Cran
ford of Henderson; five grand
children; and several nicccs and
nephews.
Funeral services were held at
3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Need-'
more Baptist Church. The Rev,
W. B. Rlmmcr and Rev. Odcll
Fundcrburkc were In charge of
the services. Burial was in the
church cemetery.

Miss Ina Hendren, a native of

bout 14 years ago, hanged herself
in a barn near her home on Sept.
8th. Bad health was thought to
have been responsible. Funeriil

Statesville on Monday of last
week. Surviving are the mother,

Her husband, Jessie Bradley

Mrs. Emmu Lconnrd McCull-
ough, 82, died nt 4:30 p.m. Sntur-
day nt her home on Mocksville,
Route 4. She had been ill for sev
eral months.
Born Sept. 28, 1869, in Dovio
County, she was married May 5,
1889, to Charles McCullough, who
died in 1945.
She was n member of Liberty
Methodist Church.
Surviving are six daughters,
Mrs. W. A. Foster and Mrs. G. C.
Swiccgood of Mocksville, Route
3, and the Misses Mamie, Annie,
Sadie Mae and Eva McCullough
of the home; 10 grandchildren and
seven grcnt-grnndchildrcn.
Funeral; services were con
ducted at 3 p.m. Monday nt the
homo by the Rev. G. W. Fink.
Grandsons served as pallbearer's,
and burial was in the McCullough
fninily cemetery.

Dies in North Wilkcsboro
Samuel R. Bcssent, 02, deputy
marshal of the Middle District of
Federal Court and u member of
the Alcohol Tax Unit for more
than 10 years, died of a heart at
tack Friday afternoon at * the
Wilkcs Hospital. Formerly of
Davic County, Mr. Bcssent had
resided In North Wilkcsboro for
the past ten years.
Mr. Bcssent Is survived by his
widow, Mrs Ruth Graves Bcss
ent of North Wilkcsboro; two
daughters, Miss Jane Bcssent of
Movth Wilkcsbo/o and Miss Nancy
Bcssent of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held
Sunday nt the First Presbyterian
Cl\urch in North Wilkcsboro.
Burial was In the Rose Cemetery
in Mocksville. The Masonic Or
der conducted graveside rites.

publisher of The Yellow Jpckct, a
paper which hnd ut one time over
300,000 circulation, died at his
home in Moravian Falls, on Nov.
ILth. Don Laws w B well known
throughout the entire country.
For a time he spent most of his
winters in Florida.
His paper was a monthly pub'
lication and was unique in every
way. He devoted much space to
telling what he thought of the Uo*
man Catliolic Church, and in
plain English let the folks' know
what he thought of the par^y who
"kept us cue of w*r *■ the New
Ueal and the Fair Deal pnrty. Ht
was an Abe Lincoln Republican,
and wasn't afraid to express his
sentiments. He was a friend of
The Record editor for nearly half
a century. Nor Carolina has pro*
duced but one Don Laws. His
place cannot be filled. May he

iously ill for five weeks and in
declining health for several years.
She was born in Davie County,
daughter of John and Lou'Walk
er Myers. She was a member of
Fulton Methodist Church.
Mrs. Wiliams was married Dec.
20, 1860, to Noah Hcndrlx, who
died in 1894. Two years later,
she married Jacob Nathan Will
iams, a Davie farmer. They mov
ed to Wjnston-Salem 27 years ago.
Surviving ore her husband,
four sons, Roy, Glenn and Vestal
Williams and Kopp Hcndrix, all
of Winston-Salcm; four daugh
ters, Miss Louelle Williams of the

Mr.' Teaguc was born in Davie
County, May 30, 1870, a son of
R Q. ond Elizabeth Eaton Teague.
He was a lifelong resident of Da
vie County, a retired farmer and

in the Farmington community
for 20 years. A graduate of Woke
Forest CoUege, Mr. Teague pnr-
. ticlpated .in. many, civic programs
and was an active members In
the Farmington Baptist Church.
He was married on Dee. 17,

died in 1047.

C., she was a daughter of Whit-
fiold and Nellie Soone Johnson.

Although Mr. Wyatl had been

denly from a heart attack.
Mr. Wyalt was born In 1867 at
Mocksville. lie was married to
Ella Rose Bosl of Concord on
July 23. 1893. In 1894 he moved to
Weatherfurd, Texas. In 1897 they
moved to what Is now known as
SeiiUnel, Oklahoma, where he
7iled a claim to the land that be
came his family home.
He Is survived by his widow
and six. children. Two of his
children preceded his in death.
Surviving are five boys, Alfred
of Dill City, Okla., Homer, Floyd
and Roy, all of Sentinel, Okla.,
Clarence of Folsotn, Cnllf.; one
daughter, Mrs. llerchel Sisinger|
of Weathuiiurd, Okla.I »

officiating. Burial was in the'
church cemetery.
Surviving are her parents: two
sisters, Joyce and Julia Edwards,
both of the home; her maternal
