of Railway Carmen. His first

One Car Accident Is Fatal To
Passenger; Two Injured
One man was killed and two others in-
Jured in a one-car accident Saturday
morning at the intersection of Country
Uuie and US 15B, one-miie east of
Mocksviiie.
Robert Leroy Preedle 38. of Mocksviiie
Rt. 2 was kiiira in the wreck which hap
pened around 6:30 a.m.
Injured were Richard Smith, about 28. of
Advance Rt. 1 and the driver, John Robert
Rlddte, 29. of Advance Rt. 1.
Deputy Sheriff Robert Cook said that
Fteedle and Smith were rassengers In a
Toyota operated by Riddle.
The car, coming otf a private drive onto
Countiy Lane apparently went out of
control and hit a pine tree beside the road.
* Preedle apparently was killed instantly.
Smith was taken to the Davie County
Hospital and transferred to the Porsyth
Memorial Hospital suffering with possible
head injuries and multiple lacerations. He
was reported in satisfactory condition
early this week. Riddle was admitted to
the Oavic County Hospital where his
condition was also reported satisfactory.
Deputy Cook said that Riddle had bem
charged with manslaughter.
Punerai services for Preedle, an em
ployee of Heritage Pumilure Company,
were held Monday morning at Baton's
funeral Chabel. The Rev. Doc Holjson
officiated with buriUHn the Yadkin Valley
Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Preedle was bom in Davidson
County March 11,1938, to the late H. B. and
Una HiU Preedle.
Survivors include his widow. Mrs.

A resident of Bermuda Run
and her daughter were killed
Sunday when their car was
struck in the side by a car (hat
went through a stop sign near
Lumberlon.

Marshall, 27, of Davie County
and her B year-old daughter.
Amber Lynn Marshall were
killed instantly as were the
occupants or the other car in the
11:30 a.m. wreck six miles east
of Lumbertcn on US 74.
Patrolman Kenneth M. Hill of
the Stale Highway Patrol said
that a vehicle operated by
Jasper Hill, 23, of Oirrum, Rt. t,
failed to stop at a stop sign at
. the intersection of US 74 and a
rural road and struck the
Mar^all vehicle in the right
side.
Hill and a passenger in his
ear, Shirley "niomas, 23, of
Proctorsville were also killed in
the accident.
Mrs. Marshall was bom in
Forsyth County. She was
assistant manager of Dot Girls
Temporary Help service and a
member of Oak Grove
Moravian Church.
Surviving arc her husband,
Gary W. Marshall; a son,
William Bradley Marshall of

accident occurred around 5 p.m.
Slate Highway Patrolman Gary Allison
reported that Miss Russ was driving south
on Highway 601 when her Chevrolet went
into a slide on the wet pavement, colliding
with a pick-up truck driven by James L.
Anderson, 29, of Mocksville Rt. 7, who was
driving north.
Anderson was treated for minor injuries
at Rowan Memorial Hospital and released.
Trooper Allison said the pick-up crashed
into the passenger side of Miss Russ' car
during a heavy rainstorm. He reported
heavy damage to both vehicles.
C & M Ambulance Service responded to
the call and later transported the injured
woman to the Baptist Hospital.
Miss Russ was born In Robeson County
and was a member of the First Baptist
Church of Mocksville. She was a hair
stylist and beautician, associated with (he
Fork Beauty Shop.
Survivors are her father and mother, W.
E. and Ellen Russ of Mocksville Rt. 7; (wo
brothers. W. E. (Bill) Russ, Jr., of
Clemmons, and Oarrcll W. Russ of
Mucksvillc.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at
the First Baptist Church of Mocksville by
the Rev. Charles Bullock. Burial was in
Rose Cemetery.

years and was a resident of the
Riverside Hotel for more than
50 years until it was torn down
in the early 60s.

Gaither April 17. 1894. She
attended Miss Maltie Eaton's
Academy and went to Salem
Cbllege. She was married in
June 1930.
Survivors include her
husband of the home; and, 1
sister. Mim Sarah Gaither of
Mocksville.

He served In World War 1 and
pastored at the following
churches: Forbush Baptist
Church, YadkinvUle; Pleasant
Hill Baptist Church.
Houstonvllle Baptist Church,
Chinquapin Grove Baptist
Church, Moeksville: New
Damascus Baptist Church.
Witkcsbcro; Pleasant Grove of
Yadkinvillc: Mt. Moriab
Baptist Church of Marion and
was still pastor of this church at
the lime of his death.
He served as moderator for 40
years of the Vadkin and Davie
Association and presently the
vice moderator of the Mountain
and Catawba Association.
Funeral services were held
Monday at Mt. Moriah Church
in Marion. Burial was In Mc-
dowcM Memorial Park, Me-
dowell County, Marlon. The
