Funeral services were Monday at Fwk Baptist Church where Mr. Cope held his membership. Officiating at the rites was the Rev. Yates Vfilkersu), and burial was in the church cemetery. Bom in Davie County, he was .a son of the late Samud and Mary Poster Cope. He was a refill farmer. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. G. E. MARVIN J. MINOR ; Marvin J. Minor, age 73, of 9215 York Road, in Charlotte, died on Wednesday morning, June 2Stb, at the <»barlotte Hospital. ; Minor was bom In Davie County to George W. and Betty jfimmerman Mmor. He served ^ the US Navy for 8 years. He spent his early life in the Fork Oommunity, and was educated in the Davie County Schools. Minor worked for WBTV tdevision station for 35 years, retiring in 1965. He was wuwn to many of his friends by the name of "Major". Minor was died originally and nationally for his engineering ac complishments. He was in strumental in a design, in stallation, and technical (gwration of the first tdevision station In the COrolina's, Vraj- V, in 1949. : Surviving are, his wife: the former Nan Carter, of Uu; home; 3 dau^ters: Mrs. Jdin T. Roper, Charlotte. Mrs. Bill W. Bamett, Marion. N.C.; and Mrs. Richard Godwin, of Raleigh, N.C., one sister: Mrs. John Whitdiead, of Clemmons, and 4 brothers: M.C. Minor, of Mt. Airy, Yatcs Mmor, d Qemmons, and Kenneth and Sam Minw, both of Winston Salem. The funeral service was conducted on Friday, June 27th. at Prichard Memorial Baptist Church in Ourlotte, at 2 pjn. The graveside service was held at 4:30 p.m. at Mock's United Methodist Church Cemetery. MRS. INACHAPPELL Mrs. Ina Irden Chappdl, 83, of 66 Watts Street, COoieunee, died at Nurses Care at 1:00a.m. June 24. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cooleemee United Methodist Church by the Rev. Aveiy Ferguson and the Rev. Ray Pennell. Burial was in Legion Memorial Park in Cooleemee. Mrs. Chappdl was a member of Cooleemee United Methodist Church. DONNIE BROWN Donald Eugene Brown, 24, formerly of Mocfcsvilie, died Monday, June 30, at Lincoln County Memorial Hospital. Funeral smwices were held Wednesday, July 2, at 11 ajn. at Macedonia Baptist Church. He was bora in Davie County, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth R. Brown, and lived here with his family until they moved to Denver. He attend^ ModtsviUe Elementary school and then graduated from Lincolnton Ifigh School. He also graduated from Appalachian State University. He was a teacher in the Llnccmton school system at the time of his death. Survivors are his wife. I«#7.S - 7 Man Brooke Martin Killed in Freak Accident Blary Brooke Martin, the tiaugbter of Mr. and 'Mrs. George Martin of MoekavlIIe. was electrocuted In a freak accident July 8th while camping In Carlsbad Caverns In New Mexico. She would have been 18 years cM July nth. Mary Brooke and her younger sister, Happy, were on the last leg of a camping (our with a group of students when the accident occurred. It was reported that the students were cooking the evening meal. It had been raining and the ground was wet. Mary Brooke, barefooted, went to a freezer to the rear of a camper van, leaned over and reached in to get on item. Her b^y touched the metal portion resulting in electrocution. She wos pulled from against the freezer by her slater Happy and a counselor, both of whom were weoring tennis sneakers. Mary Brooke wos rushed to a hospiiai where she died within 45 minutes despite ail efforts to sove her. A Junior last year at Fairfax Hail in Wayncsboru, Virginia she was enrolled for next year, oiong with her sister, at St. Catherine's School in Rich* mond, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Martin received the word of the accident around 10:30 p. m. Jidy 9th from thtir daughter, Happy. Happy returned home by aircraft Thursday evening and Mary Brooke's b^y arrl\^ on Friday and was taken to the Martin home. A private service was held at the home on Saturday aRemoon with Dr. Henry Sprinkle and the Rev. Charles Bullock of* ficiating. Funeral services were con* ducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Voglers Main Street Chapel by the Rev. Wayne Burkette and Dr. Richard Amos. Burial was in Forsylh Memorial Park. Mr. Dlxon was bom in Yadkln Qiunty and had lived in Davie and Winslon-Saiem since 1918. He was employed by Southern Steel and was later Superin tendent of Buildings and Grounds for Home Moravian Church for 20 years, retiring in 1967. He was a member of Home Moravian Church and the Men's Bible Class. He was the son of the late Lu^er and Sally Redmond Dlxon. Surviving are his wife, Stella Shamel Dlxon; one sister, Miss Frances Dlxon of Winston* Salem; one brother, T. L. Dlxon of Winston-Salem. BENJAMIN ERICSMITH Benjamin Eric Smith, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Smith, Jr., of Route 1, Mocksvllle, died at birth at Davis Hospital Friday night. Surviving in addition to his parents, are one sister, GIna Carol Smith of (he home: three brothers, Tim, Brent and Mark Smith, all of the home; the maternal grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Mrs. Larew was born in Davie County to Calvin and Mary Brown Sanford. She was a member of First Presl^terian Church and was the widow of John J. Larew. Surviving are three sons, John J. Larew of Waynesboro, Va., Hugh Larew of Moeksville, and Frank Larew of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; four grand children. AUGUST 7. 1975 00 \n W 01 O Headon Collision Results In 2nd Davie Highway Fataiity A Davie County woraan and her unborn child were killed in a headon collision last Wednesday around 11:2S a.m. The accident took place at the in> icrsectlon of N.C. 801 and Four Corners Road, near the spot where a similar collision injured four people last October. It was the second fatality in the county so far this year. Killed in the two^ar accident was Doris Cough AUred, 18, of Mockavilie Rt. 2. She was seven months pregnant at the time of the accident. Also injured in the accident was Veta Hemric Ireland. 29, of HamptonvUIe, who was driving the other car, a 1970 Old- smobile. Mrs. Allrcd was operating a 19^ Ford. Both cars were coimdered total losses. According to the investigating officer, Trooper A. C. Stokes of the N.C. Highway Patrol, Mrs. AUred was returning from an appointment with her doctor in Winston- Salem when the accident occured. The Ireland vdiicle entered N.C. 801 from Four Corners Road and failed to yield right-of*way at the slop sign. Trooper Stokes said, and struck the AUred vehicle head on, throwing Mrs. AUred from the vehicle. Mrs. AUred was token to Forsyth Memorial Hospital by the Davie County Ambulance Service but was pronounced dead from head injuries around 4:30 p.m. The unborn child was pronounced dead on arrival. Mrs. Ireland was taken to Davie County Hospital where she was treated for a broken leg and cuts and bruises. She was charged with failure to yield right-of-way at a stop sign and two counts of death by vehicle. It will be the first time the new death by vehicle law is used in Davie County. Funeral services for Mrs. AUred were conducted Fri^y at Macedonia Moravian Church by the Rev. John Capp and the Rev. KermitShoaf. Burial followed In the church cemetery. S. 158 in Cleinmons skidded out of control and struck a tree. Gerald Dale Davis, 26, of Advance Rl. I. was pronounced dead al the scene of the accident by Dr. L. W. Stringer, medical advisor to the Clemmons Rescue Squad. Davis was alone in the vcliiclc. According to a spokesman for the N. C, Highway Patrol. Davis was traveling West on U. S. 158 at an excessive rale of speed when his 1973 Dodge pickup ran off the right side of the road, veered back across the high way. and slammed broadside against the tree near the en trance of Tanglcwood Park. The victim was pinned in tlic cab of the truck for more than nn hour before riemmoiw and Forsyth County Rescue units could force a door open and free the body. BRYAN MOORE n WUIiam Bryan Moore, 78, retired chairman of the bo^ of die B.C. Moore & Sons chain of department stores, died Tuesday night Decemhor 2, at his lumie'in Wadesboro. Mr. Bryan, as he was called hy his friends and employees continued as an active advisor and influential leader in the Moore organization foUowing his retirement in 1970. With his retirment, Moore ended nearly SO years of service with the company of which he was a prime architect in building. Bryan Moore joined his father, B.C. Moore in the merchantlie business shortly after receiving his BB. degree from Virginia Military In stitute. Father and son opened the first B.C. Momre & Sons department store in Wadesboro, N.C. in 1923. Young Moore tiegan to ex* pand their (^leratim by openiim stores in South Carolina as ww as other areas of North Carolina. By 1930, he, his fathor, three brothers and a cousin had 15 retail units and wholesale warehouse facilities. Today, the Moore chain of family fashion and home centers operates 68 locations in North Carolina. South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. A native of Chesterfield county, Moore was active in the Methodist Church. He was an outstanding layman who headed the Bishop's Advisory Council and was chairman m the Methodist Home and the Wesieyan Nursing Center in Charlotte. Moore was on the boards of Brevard Coifegcf at Brevard, N.C., Pfeiffer College at Misenheimer, N.C. and St. Andrews College at Laurinburg at the time of his death. He made numerous gifts to the colleges and established the B.C. Moore ft Sons Foundation which provided college scholarships. The science building at Brevard College is named for him. He was chairman of the SS-member board there for one year and was currently serving as a vice chairman. During World War II, William Bryan Muore served as Director of Supplv fur the Charlotte Quarterihaster Depot in the United States Army. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
