Youth Drowns At Camp Myers Lake
formed at Chapel Hill to determine theChariea David Weatherman, 19, of
Advance Rt. 1, died Monday about 4:45
p.m. while swimming with friends at the
Camp Myers Lake and Campgrounds on
US 64 West, near Calahaln.
He was the son of Clyde Richard and
Charlotte Carter Weatherman of Advance
Rl. 1.
Dr. Ben Richards, county medical
examiner, said his Investigation showed
that Weatherman was with a group of
youths that went into the lake at the
cam^round. After i^aying in U for some
time, the youths left the water reportedly
to play bail. Once on ahore It was noticed
that Weatherman was missing.
The youths found Weatherman in (he
water after a search and the Davie Am
bulance Service received the call about
S;37. Steps werereported taken at the lake
U> revive the youth but he was pronounced
dead on arrival at the Davie Councy
Hospital.
Dr. Richards said that Weatherman had
epilepsy and an autopsy la being per
cause of death. It was also reported tiul
the youth had previously been in a wreck

and had a bad teg and it was reported that
he could not swim.
It was also reported that Sam Hartley,
an employee of Camp Myers, said thai
Weatherman and four or five other boys
were in the campground illegaUy as they
had not paid an entrance fee at the gate.
Camp Myers is a private camp ground that
charges for the use of Its lake. This is the
first drowning in its 13 years of existence.
Funeral service will be conducted at 11
a.m. Thursday at the Yadkin Vailey
BaptistChurchby UieRev. L^n Wood and
the Rev. RogerCroce. Burial will be in the
church cemetery. The body will be placed
in the church 30 minutes before the ser
vice.
He was born In Davie Counly to Clyde
Richard and Charlotte Carter Weather
man and was a meml>er of Yadkin Valley
Baptist Church and the Bible Club.
Survivors include his parents of Rl. },
Advance; one sister, Mrs. Linda Melton of
Rt. 1. Advance; and one brother, Eddie
Weatherman of Rl. 1, Advance.

Sunday when his truck over
turned while climbing a steep
hill In Forayth County. He died
at 7:30 p.m. in the Forsyth
Memorial Hospital.
A passenger In the truck, Nell
Boyd, 41. of Winston-Salem, was
not injured.
Wlnstofl-Salem police said the
vehicle was climbing hills in an
open field and over^med when
it traveled across a steep slope.
Mr. Motley was a construction
superintendent for L. A.
Reynolds Company of Wlnston-
Salem.
Mr. Motley was bom January
12,193B in Fayetteville, a son of
Wade end Alvls Motley. He was
educated in Rowan County
schools, In Cooleemee School In
Davie County, and at the
Maryland Institute. He was
also a member of the Salisbury
Moose Ix>dge.

Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the

under the two trees after being
dragged for about 30 feet as the

Adrian Johnson of Harmony,
Rt. 2, said he had hired Dyson
and his brother Leon, alM of
ModcsviUe, to cut the trees.
Dyson was an onfrfoyee of the
Anderson-Chip Pidpwood Co.
Jdmson said the victim's
brother came out of the woods
about 10 ajn. and adced him to
call an ambulance. When
sheriff's deputies arrived,
Johnson said, they found that
the body had been dragged after
the logs had been chained
t(%ether and hauled a short
distance.
Johnson said the accident
could have been caused by
Dyson's practice of partially
cutting several trees In the
same area and then felllog a
nearby tree, so that one tree
would take several down with It.
He was a veteran of World
War n, serving in ttie U.S.
Navy.
Mr. Dyson was bwn In Davie
County to David and Ivey

Prof. Brown's teaching

On September 25,1666, he was
honored by the university by the
naming of Brown Hail (a men's
dormilory) in his honor and
memory.

where he was a charter
member and the oldest living
member. He served as
Superlntendanl of the Sunday
School and Chairman of the
Board of Deacons, and most of
all the auxlleriea of the church.

Statesville. Dr. Moose died
suddenly Thursday evening of
licart complications. He was 45.
Dr. Moose was well-known
Ihroughout Davie County and
owned a wumhcp af fnrmg ond-
othcr properly In the county.
He was the chief of staff at
Porsylh Memorial Hospital
from 1973 to 1974 and had been
in private practice in Winston-
Salem for the past 13 years.
He grew up on a farm in
Statesville and had farms In
Davie County, where he kept
dogs and made a hobby of
training and showing his
pointers and setters in national
Taeld trials.
Dr. Moose was appointed to a
six-year term on the North
Carolina Wildlife Resources
Commission by Gov. Robert
Scott in 1369. The next year, he
was elected chairman of the
commission.
Moose graduated from N. C.
Slate University with a
bachelor's degree in
agricultural education and
science education. He did some
practice teaching in vocational
agriculture In Wayne (bounty
and later did graduate work in
agronomy at N. C. State.
His medical career began at
the Bowman Gray School of
Medicine where he received his
M. D. degree. He interned at
City Memorial Hospital in
Winston-Salem and completed a
year of general surgery
residency training at Bowman
Gray, followed by three years of
urology and urologic surgery
residency training. Dr. Moose
was a member of the teaching
staff at Bowman Gray.
In 1972 he was named to the
board of directors of The North
western Bank.

Road Side Death Attributed To Heart Attack
A Parmington woman died early
Tuesday morning along Parmington Road,
ai^renlly the victim of a heart attack.
Camilla Allen, 37, of the •Parmington
Etoad, was found by a passerby on the road
near her home around 5:10 ajn.
Davie Sheriffs Captain Jom Cidey and
Buddy Wiliiama, a special deputy, were at
the intersection of 1-40 and US 601 when the
call came In and were first to arrive on the
scene.
The deputies administered artificial
respiration at the scene, assisted by
Captain Ted Shostak, who arrived shortly
after Coley and Williams.
First reports held that Ms.A]len was the
vicilm of a hit and run driver b^use of
injuries which were later attributed to a
fall on the pavement. Because of the
possible traffic fatality, howev^. Slate
Midway Patrolman WJ>. Grooms was
caued into the case.
Mrs. Allen died at the scene, according
to medical examiner Dn B.L. Richards.
She reportedly had a history of heart
trouble. The body was taken to Baptist
Hospital for an autop^.
The daughter of and Mrs. Enodi
Clyde Jarvis, of Parmington Road, Mrs.
Allen was retired on disability from Hanes
Hosiery In Wlnston'Salem.
In addition to her parenta, she is sur

Mrs. Edna May Vance of
Frankfort, Ky. former
Lebanon, Indiana reaident, died
December 3rd at Witham
Hospital. She was 77 and had
b^n hospitalized a week,
although she had been in poor
health since June.
Mrs. Vance lived in or near
Lebanon, Indiana about 16
years before moving to Frank
fort four years ago. Prior to
coming to Lebanon she resided
In Hamilton County.
She was bom September 2.

(Peacock) Poole. She was
married July 9,19SI In Danville
to James C. Vance, who died

Bruce Tuttle Killed In
Forsyth County Wreck -
Richard Bruce T\ittle, 2?, of
Route 1 Advance, was killed in
an automobile accident In
Forsyth County about 3 a.m.
December Blh. He was killed
when his car ran off Interstate
40 and hit a bridge abutment at
the Lewisvlllc-Clemmons Road.
Officers said Tuttle, who was
alone in the car, was driving
cast and apparently fell asleep.
Mr. Tuttle was formerly
Davic County Zoning Officer
and until recently was em
ployed by the Y.M.C.A. In
Wlnston-Salem.

retired carpenter of Rt. 1, died

Tim Scott Dies After Realizing Eagle Scout Dream

Saturday, three days atter
realizing his lifelong dream of
becoming an &ag]e Scout.
His five-year battle with
cancer, u^Ich cost him his left
arm, had inspired numerous
fund raising drives in Kan-
napolis and a barbecue by the
Mockavllle Optimist Club.
Tim was the aon of Mrs. Joyce
Scott, manager of H & R Block
office in Mockavllle.
His father, the late Roba't W.
Scott, died from heart failure In
May of 1975. The awarding of
the Eagle Scout rank by
executive director Don
Relnhardt fulHlled a promiae
made by Tim to his dad before
his death.
Cancer claimed Tim's left
arm two years ago, inspiring a
g-oup of 1,000 Boy Scouts in the
mile march to raise money for
an artificial arm.
The Mocksvllle Optimist Club
held a barbecue last May to help
defray medical expenses for the
arm.
Herman Cllne, Tim's
scoutmaster, had managed the
trust fund set up from the
Tiro Scott
and hia C.B. radio—
money raised, which exceeded
117,000. Some $6,000 was spent
for the arm and the rest went
toward medical bills.
Tim had been slowly gaining
use of the artificial arm when
cancer was discovered again,
this time In his lunga.
His last major project toward
the Eagle rank had involved
visiting elderly cancer victims
In Kannapclis nursing homes.
The visits continued until his
most recent bout, which left him
weak and bedridden from
chemotherapy and blood
transfusions.
Presentation of the Eagle
award came in a quite
cerwDony. at the boy's home
Wednesday night.
Funeral services were con
ducted Monday, December 20.
at North Kannapclis United
Methodist Church by the Rev.
David Argo. Burial followed In
Carolina Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers were
adulU registered in the district
Scouting program. Honorary
paUbearers were mMnbera of
Urn's Boy Scout Troop 300 of
Elbenezer Lutheran Church.
Tim was a sophomore at A.L.
Brown High School, a member
of the Brown High Mixed
Chorus. Towel City CB Club,
and a Brotherhood member of
the Order of the Arrow.
In addition to his mother, he is
survived by a brother, Danny
Eugene Scott of Kannapolls;
two sisters, Dawn Lorraine and
Michelle Darlene Scott of the

Slawson of Kannapclis.
