Denny Messick, S3, son of C.W. Measlck of Rt, 3 Mocksville, was killed instantly along with three others when a TV or CB attena attached to the steel porch of a mobile home came into con tact with an electrical wire carrying 7,200 bolts. In addition to Messick, James Howard Gobble, IB,of Rt. BSallsbury; Earl Fred Gaskey. 30, of Rt. 14 Salisbury: and Adoiplrus Nathaniel Kolshouser Jr. 5S of Rt. 10 Salisbury, were also killed. The tragedy happened on the Gaskey Road. Just off the Airport Road, shortly after 4 p.m. According to reports the four men were helping Gaskey move his mobile home to a new location. They had the house trailer hitched to a truck and were attempting to remove the metal porch so they could move the home. With all four men holding the metal porch, either the CB antenna or TV antenna, attached to the top of the porch, touched a live power line that led into the mobile home. An investigating officer said (he 7,200 volt charge set all except Measick afire. The clothing of three of the victims w DANNY MESSICK burned off. Holshouscr was a log cutter by trade and was a veteran of World War II. Measick was employed by Tidwell Motor Carrier of Rockwcil and Gaskey by Bowman Trucking Co. in Charlotte. Gobble was employed by Cannon Mills and Mlckle Tire Co. in Salisbury. Holshouserwasthe father-in-law of Earl Gaskey. According to reports, the CB antenna was 24 feet tall. Members of the Rowan County Rescue Squad, Duke Power Co. end Locke Fire Department also went to the mobile home on Gaskey Road to be of assistance. State Highway Patrolman James Newton said there were no witnesses to the accident. A motorist found the truck on Its top on a downhill stretch of road and called authorities about e p.m. Sunday night. Trooper Newton said the truck aMarently had hit a three*foot beside the road, which caused It to flip several times. HlUer was thrown from the truck, which landed on top of him.
