He spoke of the dream he had the previous night and how the Spirit of the Lord woke him up and had him search through his Bible on the subject of rejoicing. He also spoke of. how he was led to Psalm 107: 22-33 and how it was in line with the attitude of the church. Following Bailey's opening remarks, a song, "I'm Working on a Building," was sung by those in attendance. Following the song, scripture was read by William Ijames, Sr., Psalm 107: 22-33, followed a prayer by Dr. Walser. They got cost estimates. They looked at the treasury. Such an undertaking seemed impossible. The idea went to the back burner until last spring. Willie Scott had an idea. "Let's do it ourselves." That idea raised some eye brows. They weren't carpenters. They weren't electricians or plumbers. They didn't know where to start. • But they were committed to ' the church, and last May, they started what Scott called a la bor of love. And last Sunday, the church just outside of Mocksville dedi cated the new 1,620 square foot fellowship hall in honor of the pastor and his wife, the Rev. Robert H. and Berlie P. Bailey. The hall is complete with bath rooms and a new equipped kitchen. Church members also celebrated the 122nd anniver sary of the church last Sunday. "We did it all. the members of the church," Scott said. "We mixed the mortar by hand. We put up the rafters by hand. "While the men were busy doing other things, the women built all of the walls that went in that structure." • The entire church helped, as did the comtnuqity. Donations were received from Grady McClamrock. Allen Mebane and Johnny York. Bemie Will iams. Gene Jones and Michael Whitaker did some required work. County officials were co operative. Tim Md Anissa Scott put in plenty of hours. "It was a labor of love," Scott said. An amazing thing was that, though they were working in the evenings after they got home from Jobs, and most every Sat urday, no one got mad. And there were no injuries. There weren't any cross words, Scott said. "We're a happy bunch, a small church where everybody "knows everybody. We love our church, and we love trying .to help any way we can. "This is my first home. I've always loved this church. It's something that's in a commu nity that makes a difference. We need to uphold the Lord and live it... not just preach it." he said. The old fellowship hall, so nanow it was hard to pass each other, will be converted into classroom space. Maineville has approxi mately 60 members.
