Reading Retreat Celebrated at LibraryReading Retreat Celebrated at Library
Davie County Public Library celebrated an important accomplishment on July 17, the completion of
Brandon Durham’s Eagle Scout project. Brandon chose to construct an outdoor reading retreat behind
the library in Mocksville.
Brandon selected this project because of his positive experiences with the library. He visited the library
in 2007 as part of his Cub Scout pack, and learned of the programs available through Youth Services.
“Any time I needed service hours,” said Brandon, “Ms. Lisa and Ms. Ellie gave me jobs to do that helped
me advance through the scouting ranks. When time came to choose an Eagle Scout project, I knew that I
wanted to give back to the library. Thank you to everyone who sponsored the outdoor reading retreat.”
“Library employees are already enjoying the reading retreat where they can sit and read a book while
eating their lunches. We are so very pleased that Brandon chose to do this for us. Come by and see our
reading retreat, and enjoy it yourself,” said Jane McAllister, Library Director.
Brandon is a rising eighth grader at William Ellis Middle School. He is a member of Troop 732 under the
leadership of Bethlehem United Methodist Church.
