Church Records
In
Genealogy & Family History Studies
1) North Carolina Baptist Historical Collection
Located on the 2"d floor of the Z Smith Reynolds Library on the
campus of Wake Forest University, this collection includes microfilmed
church minutes for hundreds of North Carolina Baptist Churches. They
also have histories and minutes of the many various Baptist associations
for our state, as well as hundreds of files for individual pastors. Many
other materials are available as well. Lists of available church minutes
and records are available online. Call for an appointment to schedule
your research. Their website & contact information:

2) Explore the various association histories and church information at
the North Carolina rooms in the county being researched. Many church
minutes have been transcribed into books. In addition, numerous
histories have been written for Baptist associations and churches that
are available in book form.
3) Baptist Associations — Contact the headquarters of the Baptist
Association which the church you are researching was a member of.
These associations are a repository for their historical records and are
generally very helpful to the researcher.
4) Contact the church and meet with the pastor or historian! While
Wake Forest has an enormous amount of records, they do not have all
available information for every church. Many churches have records
and written histories they are happy to share with researchers.

And always remember that many church records are still in the hands of congregations or
individuals. Some may be located in the State Archives of North Carolina or one of the major
