witnessed by James Brunt and Betsy Kinyoun. Will of Richard Brunt in Currituck
County, 1793 lists wife Sarah Brunt, sons John, James, Richard — not of age — and
Thomas; daughters Nancy, Sukey, and sister Nancy Brunt. James Brunt, executor.
Her daughter, Nancy Brunt, married Thomas Ferebee before 1795. Her
daughter, Suky, married Peter Eaton, son of Ebenezer. Her gravestone in Indiana states
she died in 1866, aged 76 years.
Lemuel — married
Children - Joel
Sarah — married a Reavis, went to Indiana
Lemuel — to Illinois
Amanda — to Kansas
/aft John — married an Anderson, went to Indiana
Levi (?) — married an Adams, went to Illinois
Sallie — child of second marriage, married a Jones and settled in
Indiana; had 3 children: David, Joel and Lemuel Jones. Her son Joel called Peter Eaton
"Uncle". Thomas Ferebee's granddaughter spoke of Aunt Sallie Jones. Her estate ws
settled by Thomas Ferebee's sale December 10 and 11, 1840. Heirs in 1842 were David
Jones, Joel Jones, John L. White, Wilson Beck, Nathan Jones, Lemuel Jones, Melissa
Jones. Salllie had a brother Lemuel in Indiana; also her son Joel was there with the
Brunts, Eatons, and Ferebees. Sallie's son, Joel Jones (Miss Flossie's note says Sarah,
but we think that is an error), wrote from Madison County, Indiana in 1839, "I live at
Uncle Peter's and shall make a crop with Uncle Lemuel. In 1842 Joel wrote to Thomas
Ferebee, Sr., about his mother's estate, calls him uncle. In 1839 Samuel Ferebee wrote
his father, Thomas, that Joel Jones had bought 75 acres from his uncle, Lemuel Kenyoun.
Joel wrote back messages to his brothers and sisters.
In Currituck County there was some sort of tie-up among the Ferebee-Brunt-Kinyoun
families.
A John Kinyoun of Princess Ann County, Virginia, by his will left land in Currituck
County, North Carolina, to his sisters, Elizabeth and Susanna and provided to whom the
land would go after their deaths. Elizabeth, October 16, 1804. died December 22,1804,
gave her property to Isaac Brown. Susanna Kennion -November 22, 1804, gave her
property to her niece, Susanna Berry. See abstract of wills, Currituck County, Page 89.
From a list of taxables of Currituck County, 1779 — Daniel Kinnion, John Kinnion, Joel
and Betsey Kinyoun, page 1-1 of Abstract of Wills. Will of Sarah Slaughter November
1800; made her brother Joel Kinyon executor; witnesses were Betsey Kinyon and James
Briunt.
Why does Joel Jones call Thomas Ferebee and Peter Eaton Uncle? Why did Nancy Brunt
Ferebee's granddaughter, Louisa Furches Etchison say "Aunt Sallie Jones"
If the Brunt's mother was Sarah Kinyoun, the Jones grandfather was Lemuel, son of
Sarah's brother Joel, there would have been a cousin relationship (Joel, Lemuel, Sallie,
Joel Jones)(?Sarah, Nancy and Sukey, Elizabeth Ferebee Furches, Louisa Furches
Etchison).
Mrs, Nannie Roberts Hays says: There were two Kinyoun places down Dutchman's
Creek from her and across the creek, Dr. Kinyoun and Lemuel Kenyoun. In the vicinity,
was also the West Martin or as known later, the Morrison Howell Place.

James Andrew Jackson, known as Jack Brunt and a most colorful figure. He was a
bachelor, a stock buyer and raiser. He owned more than one thousand acres of land in
Madison County, was a stock -holder in many banks and had interests in many indistrial
concerns. In 1915, during a siege of illness, Uncle Jack wanted Anderson to have a
splended YMCA. He presented $125,000 with the provision that the citizens of
Anderson would match that and by 1915 the YMCA was dedicated. Mr. Brunt did not
live to see the building completed. In the lobby of the YMCA still hangs a life-size
picture of that kindly old man whose wealth strengthened the Anderson Banking
Company and made a great contribution to the community through the establishment of
the YMCA. Note from Mrs. H. L.Hoffing, 927 Broadway, Anderson, Indiana.
