The Dank Of Davie Was Degan
It was on Mardh 7, 1901, that the Bank of Davie
opened with $5,000 in capital stock.
W. A. Badley of Mocksville was the first president and T. J. Byerly was the first
cashier. During the ticrst formative years, the Bank of Davie had only two employees:
Air. Byerly, the cashier, and a bookkeeper.
The bank was Fast located in the building that is now •a part of Wilkins Dsvg Store.
In 1907 it moved into special ;facilities co4ytructed for it by the MocksvMe Masonic
Lodge on the Southwest korner of the square and has operated at this site for the past
57 years.
During the past 63 years The Bank of DwAe has grown from $3,000 stock in 1901 to
$125,000 in capital stock tachy.
Through service to the county and sound bus5ness practice, our bank has prospered
through the good times and bad. Today we *=her those whom we serve in the
thousands, and look forward to -greater service and further growth in the future.

looking organizations of the town ana county. The name of every
native hero from Washington to Wilson should be emblazoned upon
its walls. The Court room would serve as a meeting, place. The
library now domiciled in one room should be equipped to serve the
whole county, and be made of great service in the present war on
illiteracy. Other rooms could be arranged to epitomize the
patriotic, education4 social and agricultural activities of the
county. A rest room, with accompanying, conveniences, for rural
residents (now by reason of the auto, suburbanities,) would tend
to check the flow of business to nearby towns made inevitable by
good roads.
Its dome was the target for 5herman's Yankees and still shows
marks of their bullets; the names of its defenders will be forgotten
if care is not taken. Tear it down as you wculd a discarded tobacco

every traveller, every boy and girl within range, has learned
through appropriate exhibits the life history, the social and in-
dustrial activities of this pioneer county. Put up the building
at auction for tlxe high dollar? Yes, but not until some son Old
Davie, inspired by the spirit of service to which this structure
should be dedicated, generous in heart and purse, secure from its

Recent events of the Boone Wagon Train and the presence at the Hom In The
West of a descendant of Daniel Boone, has brought renewed interest in the famed
pioneer and his family. In answer to many requests, we are rerunning the above
picture of the grave markers of Squire and Sarah Boone in Joppa Cemetery just
outside of Mocksville. The above tombstones are today encased in a permanent con-
crete marker. As may be noted, the headstone ... crudley carved, reads: "Squire
Boone departed this life the sixty*ninth year of his age in that yeah of our Lord
1765, Geneary Tha 211. The .companion stone for Sarah B o o n e reads: "Sarah
Boone departed this life 1777, aged 87 years.' The stone markers were so chipped
away by souvenir hunters that they at one time were removed and stored in a
bank vault. The historical commission then took the markers and encased them -in:
concrete as they stand today in. the Joppa Cemetery. on US 601 North.
