McCulloh, Cullo O'NealCAPTAIN CULLO O'NEAL and many other Irish officers of Edward
De Bruce's army went with King Robert to Scotland, who knighted
Captain Cullo O'Neal and preferred him to his standard bearer and
Secretary of State and gave SiCullo O'Neal land in Larn as like=
wise the land of Myrton andArchaweaw which comprehendedKilleran
and Ardwell in Galloway.
Sir Cullo's charter is dated at DUNSTAFFAGO, holding in Tree
Blanch Farm the Quitrent being a rose to the King to smellatwhen
he came to Myrton. SIR CULLO O'NEAL died in the year 13 , and
left his Estate of Myrton and other lands in Galloway to his elde
est Son Sir Godfrey, who assumed the surname of Mac Cullo (viz.,
Son of Cullo). Sir Godfrey McCullo had his charter revWed at Ba
Barth in the year 1332, by Day�is DE BRUCE, King of Scotland. Sir
Godfrey Died in the year 133$1)by Davis De Bruce, King of Scotlan
Sir Godfrey died in the year 1339 and was succeeded by his eldest
Son Sir Norman McCullo „ who had his chafter renewed at Perth in
the year 1400 by Robert III, King of Scotland, and was knighted ir?
1429 by King James and died in the year 1524 without issue male
and was succeeded by his son in law Henry McCullo of Killeran and
Margaret his daughter (which Henry was descended from Thomas
second son of Sir Norman McCullo) who got his charter renewed
by King James, the fifth, in the year 1525. Died about the year
1561, and was succeeded by their eldest son SYMON McCULLO, who g
got his charter renwed by Queen Mary, daughter of King Hames "V"
t9� ? and died in the year 1582, and was succeeded by his eldest son
William McCulla who died in the year . and was succeeded by h
his elderst son Alexander McCuller, who finding his estate much
embarrassed by family debts, borrowed some largb sums of money fr
from a Mr.McCulloh in London, the repayment to which he received
by heritable bonds, and put his estate of Myrton in the hands of
his brothr, John McCulloh, Laird Aidvill cosigning that the rent
b thereof should clear his debts and after having fixed his affairs
in such a manner, Laird Alexander went to Ireland with family, to
Sir Henry O'Neildho gave him land near the Main Water, where he
resided until the time of his death in tghe year 1643. He was
�- succeeded by his eldest son William McCulloh, Esq. of Brandelston/
¢ who died and left two sons viz. James of Grogan and Henry
jof Brandelston. John, Laird of Ardwell, turned out to be a bad
Trustee to Laird Alexander and his family having bought out up
ffor his own use all the old family debts and heritable bonds land
effecting MYRTON ESTATE so under color thereof Ardwell and his fa
familyu continued possessed of Laird Alexander's Scottish
7' estate and had a son named Alexander who was knighted by King
charles, the second.
