For the past ten years, my sister and I have been researching our father's family.
Now that we both are retired, we are able to spend a great deal more time on this
research.
In the course of our research, we learned about a map covering all the land that the
Daniel family had owned. in Rowan County. We wrote and ordered a copy of the map.
The individual who sent it of us is a genealogist (a Mrs. Jeanette Wilson of the
Genealogy Dept. of the Davidson Public Library in Lexington, NC.). She forwarded
us some material about the Daniel family together with a list of names of individuals
who are Daniel family researchers. We have already written to James Daniel in
Conn.
For the record, our relationship to the Daniel family goes like this -
our grandfather was James Daniel Anderson who was the son of Margaret Daniel and
Levin Albert Anderson. Margaret Daniel was born c 1828 of Poindexter Daniel and
Margaret Travers. (Poindexter and Margaret Travers were married in Somerset
County, Md. 19 May 1824. At the time of the 1870 census and the 1860 census of
Somerset County, Md., the records show a James Daniel living with Levin Alberet
Anderson and his wife Margaret Daniel. We also have a copy of a chauncery record
from Somerset County Md that shows James Daniel Anderson making a deposition
for the courts (about a lawsuit on behalf of the heirs of Traverse Daniel) in
which he states my grandfather brother of Traverse DAniel.
Included among the nine children of the union of James Daniel and Rebecca
was a'Poindexter Daniel born c. 1786 (the fourth child). The authority for the
o estimated birthdate for Poindexter is a published report that shows Travers
Daniel (18 years old at the time) going to Maryland accompanied by his younger
brother Poindexter who was 12 years of age at the time of the trip to Maryland.
Further, we found that Poindexter was in Rowan County on 14 December, 1822
'- when David Redwine and Fannie Daniel were married, either as a bondsman or
witness.
In our search of old records, we have decided that Poindexter name was a surname.
.. If this assumption is correct,we have found the record of a William Poindexter
that married a Margaret DAniel on 9 June 1782 in Goochland County, Virgi-iia. vias
this Margaret Daniel a sister of James Daniel, our Revolutionary War hero?

We are interested in knowing the following information -
Maiden name of James Daniel's mother and when born and when married to James
Daniel Sr.(am assuming that the father's name was James DAniel Sr.).
Names of any brother and/or sisters of James DAniel.
Birthplace of James Daniel and exact date of birth.
Maiden name of first wife of James Daniel's first wife and date of wedding
and where it took place.
It would be most helpful to get any information that you might beable to provide
that would assist us in putting together our family lineage.
Looking forward to hearing fran you.

Dear Fellow Genealogists:
Miss Shirley Lagle of Mocksville, N. C. sent me your letter, knowing that I had some
Daniel ancestors, also Redwines. I don't know that I can help you but will give you
what little information I have.
My mother was a McCulloh, daughter of Goshen McCulloh and Laura Frances Gobble.
Laura Fraicea Gubble's mother was a Jane Redwine. My great grandfather McCulloh,
Alfred McCulloh married in Rowan County, N. C. March 5, 1818 Jane (';XAncy") Daniel
from Virginia. She was born Dec. 26, 1794 in Virginia, died January 9, 1865 in Rowan
County and is buried in the family cemetery. I think her father was Josiah Daniel, Sr.
born c. 1756 VirginiaThere are a lot of Daniels in Rowan and Davie Counties. Davie
was cut from Rowan.I shall keep an eye peeled for any of the names you mentioned.
I have a couple dozen notebooks of random information. That is when I was in a library
or courthouse and came across any of the names I am interested in I wrote it down
though at the time I could work out no connection. When I get a chance (don't know
when_), I'll look through the Daniel and the Redwine info. Wish I knew at first what I
know now. It would not be mixed. I would have bad a separate notebook for each name
or out it on index cards.
Good luck. Sincerely,
(Mrs.) Alice Holton Eidson

Dear Al i c e ,
I am writing this in the hope it reacne s you. I think I have all
your address with -the exception of the zip code. The postal ser-
vice may deliver it - or they may not.
I am sending a letter to you written by two Anderson sisters. They
are seeking -information on a James Daniel. I have seen a number -
of James Daniels mentioned in records, but have no idea if they are
this James . -- I _ really have -very -little Daniel material_ but I do
know that 1 descend from Josiah Daniel, Sr. and wife Priscilla thru
their daughter Pallaton who married' George Lagle and lyiary who married
Daniel Foster. My interest did arouse when I noted they mentioned
a Redwine. If memory serves me, you are descended from this family.
Anyway, I told them I would send the letter to a friend in Winston-
Salem, A. 0. (I didn't give them your name) If this means anything
to you, or if you can help them, you may contact them.
nope that you and your family are well anu had a very(good Christmas.
If 1 go to- see Doris soon, I'll call you and find out if you would
like to go, too.
Love.,
O

Thank you so much for your letter of January 11 about the Daniel f ami ly .
In thecourse of my research regarding the Daniel family, I have found that
James Daniel married Rebecca Travers Adderton, a widow, on 5 April 1779.
They subsequently had 9 children. This James Daniel is our g.g.g.grand-
father and Revolutionary War hero.
One of the nine children of James and Rebecca was James W. Daniel who
married Nancy Henly on 6 July 1814. Abraham Redwine, who was the bondsman,
was also the brother-in-law of James W. Daniel. Abraham Redwine had
married Mary (Polly) Daniel, sister of James W. Daniel, on 18 June 1811.
Our JaMES Daniel was born about 1755 in Northunberland County, Va. Is
it possible that our James- could have been a brother of your forbear
Josiah Daniel Sr.? According to Hayden's book on the Daniel's there was
a Josiah Daniel born of James Daniel of Goochland county, Va. and
Elizabeth Woodson daughter of Benjamin and Sarah (Porter) Woodson. This
Mr. Daniel was sherif of Goochland in 1742 and Albermarle in 1754.
Thank you for forwarding my letter to your friend in Winston-Salem.
You might tell your friend in Winston-Salem that a Nancy Redwine Nelson
who lives in Tampa has written a book on the Redwine's. Perhaps she
would be interested. Mrs. Nelson may be contacted at 11617 Carrollwood Drive,
Tampa, Fl. 33618. The cost of the book was $30.001 which included shipping.
Sincerely,
(Miss)Mar a --(-Peggy) J. Anderson
