COMPANY F
This company was raised in Davie County and was enlisted
at Mocksville on March 18, 1862. It was then ordered to
Salisbury, where it was designated Company F, 42nd
Regiment N.C. Troops. The company was officially mustered
in on or about May 10, 1862, for three years or the duration
of the war. After joining the regiment the company
functioned as a part of the regiment, and its history for the
remainder of the war is reported as a part of the regimental
history.
The information contained in the following roster of the
company was compiled principally from a company muster -
in and descriptive roll dated May 10, 1862, and from
company muster rolls for June 30, 1862 -June, 1863, and
September, 1863 -October, 1864. No company muster rolls
were found for May I1 -June 29, 1862; July -August, 1863;
and for the period after October, 1864. Valuable information
was obtained from primary records such as the North
Carolina adjutant general's Roll of Honor. discharge
certificates, medical records, prisoner of war records, and
pension applications. Secondary sources such as postwar
rosters and histories, cemetery records. and records of the
United Daughters of the Confederacy also provided useful
information.
