Marie Benge CraigDavie County Public Library Mocksville, North Carolina MARIE BENGE CRAIG: a biographical sketch Marie Benge Craig was born in Statesville and reared in Black Mountain, North Carolina. She graduated from Owen High School, Brevard Junior College, and Western Carolina College with a degree in mathematics education. She also has a Masters’ Degree in education from Western Carolina and further math study at the University of South Carolina. She has been a teacher of math, tatting, music, and genealogy. She served as volunteer and director of two Family History Centers in LDS churches. She married William S. Craig and has two sons and six grandchildren. She moved to Davie County, her mother’s native county, in 2004 and became a volunteer at the History Room of Davie County Public Library. She organized the microfilm drawers and created a spreadsheet which describes the holdings. She gathered and organized information about Eatons Baptist Church which was bound into a reference book. Marie has written eight books about her family and five books about Davie County history:  History of Davie County Schools which won awards from NC Genealogical Society and NC. Society of Historians  Davie County in World War One which won the president’s award from NC Societ y of Historians  Davie County Veterans’ Memorial which won an award from the NC Society of Historians  Remembering Davie County Protection and Service Personnel  Davie County in the Spanish American War She is active in the Davie County Historical and Genealogical Society, serving as treasurer, membership chairman, editor of quarterly Dossiers, and Webmaster.
